Availability

Hello and a warm welcome to Anita Duke Therapy.

My practice hours are Tuesday - Friday (8am - 6pm)

Please note that I do not have any new client availability at present. I will update this page as and when I have spaces I can offer.

About me and my therapy practice

Have life's experiences left you struggling, anxious or feeling stuck? I especially work with anxiety, stress and emotional trauma, offering a calm, caring and supportive space to help you make sense of things and move forward. Perhaps I can help you?

I take an individual, intuitive and creative approach to therapy, adapting my methods according to what you need and what, together, we find best achieves the change you seek.

I will gently encourage you to explore your experiences and connect to the natural resources of your mind, body and breath. First and foremost, however, I offer a welcoming, respectful and non-judgemental space for you to talk and be really heard. Time dedicated to unravelling what is happening for you and helping you through the difficulties you face.

As a trauma-informed integrative counsellor and therapist, I draw from a range of counselling theories and other therapeutic approaches, including traditional talking therapy, mindfulness and breathwork, somatic and resilience-informed therapy, CBT, psychodynamic therapy and clinical hypnotherapy.

I offer both short and long-term therapy and can particularly help with:

  • anxiety & worries
  • stress & work-related issues
  • low mood
  • emotional trauma & dysregulation
  • negative thinking & habits
  • phobias & fear
  • relationships & family problems
  • confidence & self-esteem
  • general wellbeing & personal development

You may only need a few sessions, perhaps for a specific problem or coping strategies, or you may benefit from longer, deeper exploration. Between us we’ll find what’s right for you, your circumstances, and the outcome you desire.

Next steps

I am a firm believer that the therapeutic relationship is key to a successful outcome, so it's important you choose a therapist you feel comfortable with. As such, I offer new clients a FREE initial, no-obligation telephone or zoom consultation (30 mins) to get a sense of our ‘fit’, how we can work together and how I can help.

Practice description

I work with adults of all ages - from young people / students (age 18+) just getting used to adult life, through to those in or approaching retirement.

I work both online across the UK, and from my comfortable and peaceful private client room on the outskirts of Bury St Edmunds, situated on the A134 Sudbury Road a few miles from the A14.

Sessions are a full hour (60 minutes) by prior appointment only. I offer a range of times Tuesday – Friday (8am-6pm).

Further details about me, how I work, the therapies I offer, and my current availability can be found on my website: www.anitaduketherapy.co.uk

My first session

I appreciate that starting therapy can feel daunting, which is one of the reasons I offer a free initial consultation to get to know each other a little.

I will start our first full session together explaining a few important ethical and day-to-day considerations of therapy, such as confidentiality, data protection and what to do if you can't make a session. I find this helps put clients at ease. I will then take some contact and medical details and ask you to complete a short clinical assessment. This helps me identify your therapeutic needs and supports ongoing reviews.

In a caring and supportive environment, we will then begin gentle exploration. I will help you to feel relaxed and at ease and encourage you to become curious and perhaps kinder to yourself. If you are particularly distressed or anxious, I'll support you with this, bringing in a co-regulating resource where appropriate and sitting alongside you until the feelings pass.

You may be surprised to find yourself talking more than you expected and noticing that already something starts to change for you, but if it takes longer to open up that’s fine. Together, we’ll find a pace and working style that feels right for you, because this is your therapy, and you are at the heart of what I do.
