Hi, I'm Anita, and as an integrative counsellor and therapist I draw from a broad range of counselling approaches as well as other psychotherapies, including CBT, Hypnotherapy, NLP, EMDR and Life Coaching. I adapt these according to what you are seeking from therapy and what, together, we find works best for you. First and foremost however, I offer a safe, supportive, respectful and confidential space for you to talk and be really heard: Time dedicated to unravelling what is happening for you, and what you need to help you through the difficulties you face. I offer both short and long-term therapy. You may only need a few sessions, perhaps for a specific problem or some anxiety coping strategies, or you may benefit from longer exploration at a deeper level. Between us we’ll find what’s right for you, your circumstances and the change you seek.
I am a firm believer that the therapeutic relationship is key to a successful outcome, so it's important you choose a therapist you are comfortable with. As such, I offer a FREE 30 minute telephone or online consultation so that you can ask questions and get a real sense of how we can work together and how I can help. I am certified to work both in-person and online in the UK, with adults of all ages - from older teenagers/students (age 18+) just getting used to the adult world, to those in or approaching retirement.
I offer a warm welcome to my private, comfortable and peaceful client room on the outskirts of Bury St Edmunds, situated on the A134 towards Sudbury only a few miles from the A14. I have close contact safety procedures in place for your protection.
I am equally happy working online if that's what you would prefer or you are elsewhere in the UK. In fact, following the pandemic much of my work is now online. I will discuss and agree safety and practical implications before we start.
Whichever way of working you choose we will regularly review how you are finding things.
Sessions are for the full hour unless specified. Appointments are available Tuesday – Friday subject to availability. Later evening appointments are offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

My first session
I appreciate that starting therapy can feel daunting and uncertain, which is why I offer a free initial telephone or online consultation as a chance for us to get to know each other: You finding out how it would be working with me and how I can help, and me finding out about what you are struggling with and what you are seeking from therapy. If you are happy to continue we will agree your regular session, which will usually be weekly or sometimes bi-weekly.
I will start our first full session by taking relevant contact details and a medical history. I will then explain important ethical considerations, such as confidentiality and privacy, and will ask you to complete a short clinical assessment of 34 multiple choice questions, which helps me identify your therapeutic needs, and is a useful basis for ongoing reviews.
In a safe, caring, supportive and non-judgemental environment, we will then begin to gently explore what is happening for you and how best to work together to start the process of change. I will do my best to help you feel relaxed and at ease, and encourage you to become curious and perhaps kinder to yourself. If you are particularly distressed or nervous I may demonstrate an anxiety coping or relaxation technique, or simply sit alongside you until the feelings pass.
You may be surprised to find yourself talking more than you expected and noticing that already something starts to change for you, but if it takes longer to open up that’s fine. Together, we’ll find a pace and working style that feels right for you, because you are at the heart of what I do.
