About me and my therapy practice
Have life's uncertainties and experiences left you struggling or feeling stuck? Whatever difficulties or challenges you face it can be confusing finding the right person to talk to. If you live in the Bury St Edmunds / Sudbury area perhaps I can help?
Hi, I'm Anita, an integrative counsellor and therapist. This means that I draw from several different counselling approaches as well as other psychotherapies, including CBT, hypnotherapy, NLP and EMDR, and I adapt them according to what what you are seeking from therapy and what, together, we find works best for you. First and foremost however, I offer a safe, respectful and confidential space for you to talk and be really heard: Time dedicated to unravelling what is going on for you, and what you need to help you through the difficulties you face.
I offer both short and long-term therapy. You may only need a few sessions, or you may benefit from us spending longer working together, exploring at a deeper level. Between us we’ll work through what’s right for you, your circumstances and the change you seek.
I can especially help with:
- general wellbeing
- anxiety & worry
- stress & work related issues
- low mood
- negative thinking
- confidence & self-esteem
- relationship difficulties
- emotional trauma
- unhelpful habits
- weight management
- personal development.
I am a firm believer that the therapeutic relationship is key to a successful outcome, so it's important you choose a therapist you are comfortable with. As such, I offer a FREE 30 minute telephone consultation so that you can ask me any questions and get a real sense of how we can work together and how I can help you. If you are interested, please email or give me a call on 07885 254319. If I’m unavailable I will get back to you as soon as possible.
I am certified and registered to work both in-person and online in the UK with adults of all ages - from older teenagers/students (age 18+) just getting used to the adult world, to those in or approaching retirement.
As lockdown lifts I am delighted to be able to once again welcome clients to my private, comfortable and peaceful client room on the outskirts of Bury St Edmunds, situated on the A134 towards Sudbury and only a few miles from the A14, in accordance with government guidelines.
I am equally comfortable with working online if that's what you are now used to and would prefer. I am currently also offering a temporary 'blended' approach to ease the transition for those wishing to return face-to-face, whilst being mindful of the ever changing nature of the pandemic. I will discuss and agree the safety and practical implications of this way of working with you before we start.
However we are working we will regularly review how you are finding things during the course of your therapy.
My first session
I appreciate that your first full session might feel quite daunting, but perhaps think of it as a 'Discovery Session' - a chance for us to get to know each other: You finding out how it is working with me and what to expect, and me finding out about what you are struggling with and what you are seeking from therapy.
Towards the start of the session I will take some contact details and a relevant medical history, as well as explaining and agreeing with you specific ethical considerations, such as confidentiality and privacy, plus practical considerations including cancellations, holidays and payments. As part of this intake procedure I will ask you to complete a short clinical assessment of 34 multiple choice questions, which helps me identify your therapeutic needs, and forms a useful basis for ongoing reviews.
I will then encourage you to talk about the reasons you have come to therapy, and what is happening for you. I will do my best to help you feel at ease and informed, and in a safe, supportive, confidential and non-judgemental environment we will begin to gently explore what is troubling you and how to work with this. You may just want to talk or we may identify that working in a specific solution focused way, or more creatively, would suit you.
Don't be surprised if you find yourself talking more than you expected and noticing that already something starts to change for you, but if it takes longer to open up that’s fine. We’ll find a pace that feels right.
The whole session will be a gentle exploratory conversation and time exclusively for you, in a safe, welcoming environment. I am used to nervous first time clients and I'll make it as relaxed as possible. If you are especially anxious or emotional I will sit with you through these feelings and, if appropriate, demonstrate a calming technique to help. It really is that flexible, and totally tailored to what you need.
