About me and my therapy practice
It is often difficult to decide to seek help, and I have great respect for anyone deciding to consult someone for therapy.
I originally trained at Goldsmiths College, University of London, on their postgraduate counselling training. I have a NHS-funded Masters' degree in mental health from the University of Kent.
I have been practising as a counsellor since 1999 with an emphasis on developing an empathic, confidential, non-judgemental, therapeutic relationship.
I have worked in the NHS for around 20 years, as a mental health crisis team manager, as a liaison psychiatry clinical specialist, and as a psychological therapist in GP surgeries and clinics.
I have taken further study with the Independent Group of Analytical Psychologists in Jungian approaches to therapy; also with the Institute of Psychiatry in enhanced skills; and with the University of Sussex for CBT training.
I have a particular interest in co-dependency, meditation and walk and talk.
I offer counselling, mainly psychodynamic, at home in Canterbury, seeing men and women, some couples, and I can offer some home therapy visits.
Counselling can be brief or can be longer with a deeper engagement for more complicated issues.
I have worked in the NHS for over 20 years and am confident in providing a full psychiatric assessment for people who have mental health issues. I can provide this for insurance and other legal issues.
My practice has become more integrated using other therapy approaches including EMDR which is very good for flashbacks, dissociation, trauma and PTSD. If you get 'triggered' by old memories then EMDR can make a big change.
I have had further training in the NHS with CBT which can be very helpful particularly with anxiety disorders and depression.
Normally the sessions are weekly over 50-60 mins, the sessions can be online on Zoom or Skype; or at home if you in East Kent.
My first session
There would be an initial assessment in Canterbury, and we can explore how you may be helped.
I have a great deal of experience offering psychiatric assessments and can normally help you identify any specific concern that may bother you but you can't quite put your finger on.
This first session can be online, using Zoom or Skype.
