About me and my therapy practice

Are you living with the symptoms of emotional ‘trauma’, distressing memories and emotional triggers? Is this making life, work and relationships more difficult? Perhaps you experience flashbacks, intrusive thoughts, panic, phobias, anger?

My name is Johnnie Taylor. I am a BACP Registered psychodynamic therapist, specialising in Internal Family Systems’ (IFS) therapy. I am also an EMDR Association registered therapist. I have a 20-year background in NHS liaison psychiatry, crisis team and A&E management in the NHS,  and counselling in GP surgeries.

For your therapy, I integrate Internal Family Systems’ therapy with trauma-informed (EMDR) therapies. This is a somatic IFS approach, befriending traumatised ‘busy’ parts of your nervous system.  informed to help you with problems related to past childhood experiences of neglect, abuse and abandonment.

For example you have may difficulties related to PTSD, OCD, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, chronic fatigue, relationship problems, panic attacks, poor confidence and feelings of worthlessness and defeat. You may have difficulty establishing boundaries with people, or you may be attracted to abusive people.

Practice description

The integration of Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy with Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a truly compassionate and loving therapy, very popular in the NHS and across the world.

With this simple integrated approach, you will learn to love all parts of yourself, even troubling protector parts like panic and social anxiety; and parts of you that you avoid relating to authentically like shame; and then you can begin to melt away any history of 'trauma' or negative adverse events.

Historically, post-traumatic stress disorder was spotted with army vets coming back from war zones, it was called shell shock. What helped was bilateral stimulation and reprocessing of traumatic memories. But the EMDR people worked out that lots of troubled people had similar issues and the technique works for abuse, neglect and abandonment.

"Johnnie's knowledge and how he articulates several techniques to adjust to each traumatic event, in order to achieve the intended results, is simply outstanding. I went from being a shadow of myself, numb and depressed, to being a completely new person, strong, confident and positive and having more control of my thoughts." (Roger)

About me and my therapy practice

Are you living with the symptoms of emotional ‘trauma’, distressing memories and emotional triggers? Is this making life, work and relationships more difficult? Perhaps you experience flashbacks, intrusive thoughts, panic, phobias, anger?

Together we can use Internal Family Systems' therapy with EMDR therapy to compassionately engage with your self. IFS is an amazing modern therapy that reveals that your 'problems' are actually your nervous system trying to help you. We can befriend your troubled 'parts' and use EMDR to process burdens from the past. We can connect compassionately to your inner child.

My name is Johnnie Taylor. I am a BACP Registered psychodynamic therapist, specialising in Internal Family Systems’ (IFS) therapy. I am also an EMDR Association registered therapist. I am registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council. I have a 20-year background in NHS liaison psychiatry and in GP surgeries. I can help with complex difficulties.

I integrate Internal Family Systems’ and trauma (EMDR) therapies, to help you with relationship issues going back to experiences of neglect, abuse and abandonment. Often these early childhood problems show up as complex adult issues.

But the EMDR chiefs worked out that lots of troubled people had similar issues. It is obvious really. 'Symptoms' are alarms prodding you to 'watch out!' And they can get very very busy.

This scenario of busy alarm parts is such a common experience for so many people. The IFS people also realised that behind the alarm system are forgotten or 'exiled' parts. For example shame, fears of abandonment, somatising parts that embed emotional problems deep into the body. Much of the deeper stuff is evidence of poor experiences in childhood. Parts' therapy often needs a boost of EMDR due to the intense suffering of your inner child. That's why IFS began to integrate EMDR creating a dynamic repairing and healing synergy.

Racquel says: "It was an amazing year in therapy with you. You have a soft and gentle approach instead of forcing an interaction or experience, which made me feel comfortable and safe in every session. Considering I had bad experiences with therapy beforehand, doing therapy with you felt really refreshing. I feel like my life improved in general, and that was my end goal. Thank you for everything!" (Feb 2024)

"Johnnie's knowledge and how he articulates several techniques to adjust to each traumatic event, in order to achieve the intended results, is simply outstanding. I went from being a shadow of myself, numb and depressed, to being a completely new person, strong, confident and positive." (RG)

"Hello Johnnie, I wanted to say thank you, you are a wonderful therapist beautifully evidenced by your results. It was a pleasure to work with you." (University supervisor)

"I am writing to you because I did not say thank you for your help, listening to me during my troubled times. You have a calm voice and a relaxed and friendly manner, which made you an easy person to talk to, working through problems, talking to someone impartial does help. I hope you help many more people in the future. Thanks again." (Community mental health team patient)

"Just a note to say 'thank you'. You elevated what I had seen as silly/shameful to the sacred and you opened my eyes (but more importantly my heart) to new dimensions I have yet to fully explore." (trainee clinical psychologist)

"You're a brilliant therapist.. I feel blessed to have known you, it was a privilege to have worked with you."
