About me and my therapy practice

Hello I offer counselling and therapy in Canterbury and have 20 years of NHS experience.

I’m based in central Canterbury but also work online.

I originally trained at Goldsmiths College, University of London, on their postgraduate counselling training, and with Deptford Psychotherapy Centre.

I have practiced in the NHS, as a mental health crisis team manager, as a liaison psychiatry clinical specialist, and as a psychological therapist in GP surgeries, with IAPT, and local mental health services.

I have conducted thousands of A&E psychiatric assessments and often can pinpoint problems. I can also understand how counselling and therapy operate within a wider social and family context.

I have postgraduate NHS training in cognitive behavioural therapy; and recently qualified as an EMDR therapist (a treatment for trauma).

If you prefer online therapy, it is best, if possible, to meet up in person first for an assessment. EMDR therapy can also be facilitated online.

EMDR can also be integrated with a psychodynamic or attachment-focused perspective also with CBT. I will do whatever i can to help you.

Practice description

I practice in a safe confidential way without judgment and ethically, according to BACP standards.

My emphasis is on the therapeutic relationship. I have many positive testimonials available.

Normally the sessions are weekly consultations in Canterbury. Or the meetings can be online on Zoom if you prefer. I host a meditation day each month.

My website is being updated i do apologise. Thank you.

My first session

There would be an initial assessment in Canterbury, or online, and we can explore your options in a positive way.

I have a lot of NHS experience offering psychiatric assessments and I can normally help you identify any specific problem such as autism, ADHD, codependency etc., that might be worrying you.

I have been in Jungian analysis for many years and was a candidate at the Independent Group of analytical Psychologists. I am interested in Vipassana meditation and walking pilgrimages ie the Camino de Compostela in Spain.

Thank you.

About me and my therapy practice

I have practiced in the NHS for around 20 years, as a mental health crisis team manager, as a liaison psychiatry clinical specialist, and as a psychological therapist in a GP surgery, with IAPT, and local clinics.

I have postgraduate NHS training in cognitive behavioural therapy; and recently qualified as an EMDR therapist, currently under group supervision. My background is grounded in psychodynamic and relational approaches to therapy.

Practice description

I trained at Goldsmiths College, University of London, on their postgraduate counselling training, and with Deptford Psychotherapy Centre. I then studied at the Independent Group of Analytical Psychology while under Jungian analysis for several years.

I have practiced in the NHS for around 20 years, as a mental health crisis team manager, as a liaison psychiatry clinical specialist, and as a psychological therapist in NHS settings.

I have found that i can contain cases because of my NHS experience. I have worked closely with Consultant Psychiatrists in NHS settings for many years. I have experience of biopsychosocial conceptualisation, and management of difficult cases.

I an particularly interested in Jungian and post-Jungian approaches to personal growth and individuation.

I am happy to arrange sessions online.

I have an MSc from the University of Kent. I enjoy hiking, Vipassana meditation, and gardening. I have enhanced DBS clearance.

My first session

I tend to explore 'in the room' our engagement to understand the clinical process of the supervisee and their client.

This might include some discovery of unconscious process and for example considering unconscious motivations of the client and the supervisee.

Issues that crop up are 'psychiatric' considerations, around the 'frame' and 'projective identification', 'parallel processing', preverbal issues, containment and holding etc.

I have been in a psychoanalytic supervision group for several years and find the clinical presentations are often acted out within the supervision session inviting opportunities for insight and interpretation.

I normally offer supervision monthly in Canterbury in person or online.

Thank you.
