About me and my therapy practice

Deciding to see a therapist can be daunting but transformative and it is important that you choose an experienced, appropriately trained therapist with whom you can build a trusting relationship. I hold a Masters in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and work with people who bring a wide range of emotional and psychological issues. I currently offer focused, short-term counselling or more in-depth medium-term psychotherapy.

My approach is to work with clients to explore the root causes of their problems. The focus of the therapy is for clients to develop a better understanding of their thoughts, feelings, past experiences and patterns of relating and behaving that can become repeated in the present in unhelpful ways. This greater personal insight can lead to a capacity to be able to better manage feelings and behaviours in the present, allowing the opportunity for change and emotionally healthier ways of being and relating.

I have worked in both the public and private sectors and am a Supervisor and have been a Guest Lecturer on the Masters Course at Birkbeck University. With training in organisational processes and dynamics, I have a particular interest in mental health issues in the work-place. Prior to working as a psychotherapist, I had 20 years experience in senior communications roles across multinationals to small organisations.

You are very welcome to contact me to discuss your circumstances, with a view to setting up a consultation where we can explore your difficulties and together decide the next best steps for you.

Practice description

At my private practice I provide a safe and confidential setting: https://citylondonpsychotherapy.co.uk/

My consulting rooms are located at convenient and comfortable offices in a private and tranquil location in the City at, 1 Snow Hill Court, London EC1A 2EJ, just a few minutes walk from City Thameslink Rail Station (Holborn Viaduct exit) and approximately six minutes walk from Farringdon (rail and tube) and Chancery Lane tube stations.

My first session

Before any work commences, I offer an initial assessment or consultation. The objective of the assessment is to reach an understanding of what brought a person to seek help and to then develop a formulation of what would be most useful for example, short-term therapy, medium-term therapy or a referral for a different approach or service. This initial meeting is also an opportunity for both therapist and client to decide if they wish to work together with no obligation to commit to anything further for the time being.

Occasionally the initial consultation may be enough on its own with a client then deciding they may not need to or wish to proceed with any further work. Usually however, people do want to continue at which point an agreement is made to either: proceed with a short-term contract which means a number of sessions are agreed at the outset with an option to review the work and extend if appropriate; or work can be open-ended where there is no predetermined date but also with the opportunity to review progress. Once this is decided, specific terms can then be agreed such as frequency of sessions, typically 50 minutes once a week, appointment times and fees. Clients will then be provided with a copy of a written contract and be fully informed of and provided with a copy of a “Confidentiality, Privacy and Data Policy” before any work commences.
