About me and my therapy practice

I am a degree qualified integrative counsellor, and a member of The British Association of Counseling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and British Psychological Society (BPS). I specialise in anxiety, depression and trauma, but also a variety of issues including attachment and relationship issues, physical and sexual abuse; stress and phobias; bereavement and multiple losses, moderate/severe difficulties with self-esteem; workplace bullying; cultural and spiritual issues, significant life-changing events such as divorce or redundancy; adjustment problems related to a health issue or identity crisis.

Practice description

In my practice, I work integratively and use various theoretical approaches, including the Psychodynamic approach, Person-Centred Therapy, Existential Approach, Brief Solution Focused Therapy, and Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

I believe that therapy is a co-creative process and that the therapeutic relationship is fundamental to any good therapeutic outcome. My view is that each person experiences the world in a unique way, and there is no "one size fits all" approach. As a result, our therapeutic work becomes distinctly personal, tailored to you and your specific needs.

My first session

I offer a 20 min free call to help you decide if I am the right therapist for you.

At our first introductory session, we will explore your current issues and what brought you to therapy. I will enquire about your background and will assess your specific needs. We will discuss and decide which type of therapy would be most suited to you and we can set goals for treatment.

I will also explain more extensively how I work and you will have the chance to ask questions to decide whether you would like to start therapy with me.

We will also discuss the options available to you, from long-term therapy to short-term counselling.

About me and my therapy practice

Changing old patterns of behaviour and core beliefs may not be immediately obvious. As the saying goes - “you can’t read the label from inside the jar” or you can’t efficiently identify or solve your own problems because you’re just too close to them. Perhaps you're feeling low or anxious; perhaps you are struggling with a loss; perhaps you're unsure about the future of a relationship, or maybe you just don't feel like you're living the life you were meant to live.

I am here to guide, support and encourage you on your path to self-healing, and self-discovery. To step out and see the bigger picture and find the solutions to your difficulties. Therapy is an investment in yourself. Just as your physical health requires attention and self-care, so does your mental health.

My philosophy: I work relationally and believe that each person experiences the world in a unique way, and there is no "one size fits all" approach. It is my view that therapy is a co-creative process and that the therapeutic relationship is fundamental to any good therapeutic outcome. Counselling can provide a reformative experience and a new "lens" for looking at the self, the world and others. My purpose is to help you uncover your hidden resources and untapped strengths, to gain clarity and perspective on what troubles you.

Practice description

Areas I work with: I specialise in anxiety, low moods and depression, trauma and relationship issues, but also a variety of issues including attachment, physical and sexual abuse; stress and phobias; grief and multiple losses, self-worth and self-esteem;  bullying; cultural and spiritual issues, significant life-changing events such as divorce or redundancy; adjustment problems related to a health issue or identity crisis.

Training::

BSc (Hons)Integrative Counseling (University of East London)

MSc in Psychology (University of East London)

PGCert Systemic Family Therapy ( King’s College London)

Membership: British Association of Counseling and Psychotherapy (BACP); British Psychological Society (BPS); Association for Family Therapy and Systemic Practice (ATF).

As an integrative therapist, I have been trained in a number of theoretical approaches, including Psychodynamic, Person-Centred, Existential, Systemic Family Therapy, Brief Solution Focused Therapy, and Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT). In my practice, I work integratively and use these theoretical modalities to tailor them to your unique needs, making our therapeutic work distinctly personal.

My experience: I have worked in NHS and alongside a number of organisations including The Awareness Centre, The Listening Place, and Women’s Aid with clients from diverse social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds, including refugees and asylum seekers.

Background: My previous background in International Relations and my extensive travelling allowed me to appreciate people's cultural and individual differences and gain a perspective on culturally sensitive issues, which I embrace in my counselling practice.

My first session

If you are considering therapy but you are uncertain of the methods and results, I offer a free 20-minute enquiry call in order to speak about your presenting issues and any questions you may have concerning therapy.

I usually see my clients once a week for 50 minutes. I am flexible and can accommodate my clients’ needs; depending on your schedule we may want to meet more or less frequently, or you may sometimes want to come for longer sessions.

The type, frequency and duration of your treatment will be discussed at the initial consultation and will be revisited in due course.

I also offer sessions via Zoom or telephone. This is something that we would also discuss during our initial consultation.

When we start working together, our first session will be an initial consultation. I will deeply explore your current issues with you, enquire about your background, and work to establish which type of therapy I think would be most suited to you.

I will assess your specific needs and we can set goals for treatment. I will also explain more extensively how I work and you will have the chance to ask questions to decide whether you would like to start therapy with me.

We will also discuss the options available to you, from long-term therapy to short-term counselling. From our conversation, I will help you to understand which type of treatment would suit you the most. You will leave the room with no uncertainty but with a clear idea of what you can expect from our work together.
