About me and my therapy practice
I work using a range of creative art and play based approaches based primarily on person centred values and drawing on a wide range of theory to allow for an eclectic and uniquely individual experience according to each client's needs and their stage of development. Whilst this approach particularly lends itself to therapeutic work with children, it can also be very helpful for anyone who feels they struggle to express themselves verbally. It does NOT require artistic or creative talent! Aiming to help clients express their concerns, adapt to their challenges and develop more successful strategies, through one to one sessions I encourage adults to give this approach a go as a potential key to opening the door to our subconscious, expanding our conscious awareness and supporting personal development.
I particularly enjoy working with parents and their children together helping them to reconnect to and strengthen their bond through therapeutic play. Parent Child Attachment Play is a strengths-based approach which looks forward, coaching and empowering parents/carers to be change agents in their own family, often an alternative early intervention to therapy for the child.
An initial half hour phone consultation is free of charge .
Fee concessions may be possible depending upon my caseload availability and needs assessment. Please do not let cost stop you from accessing therapy with me as we can find a creative way to make it possible in most cases.
Practice description
I work using both on line and in person sessions, sometimes a mix of both. I travel for work several times a year, so I plan in person work carefully to coincide with being based in North Dorset, usually in ‘chunks’ of up to 8 sessions. My therapy rooms are based on a rural farm, with the room carefully planned to offer a wide range of creative media such as sand, clay, different types of paint as well as craft materials, musical instruments, and games. It sometimes gets messy!
When working on line, I usually provide a list of basic supplies we may use during sessions, that I’d ask you to have close by during our session, most of which you are likely to already have at home.
My first session
Our first session. Is all about getting to know each other and building the rapport that creates a sense of emotional safety so crucial to successful therapy. Whilst I will be keen to hear about what is concerning you, and what you hope to gain from therapy so we can have a realistic plan, I will also be very curious to know a lot about you and your life, what’s important to you, what makes your heart sing, and what drags you down.
You will be asked to sign a contractual and consent agreement before we start, and I may well ask you to complete an assessment questionnaire with me which helps provide base line information around your particular concerns, and can be repeated during your therapy to help us check and measure progress.
