About me and my therapy practice

I work with adults of all ages who are feeling anxious, depressed, lonely, not good enough, unhappy with their coping mechanisms, unhappy with their relationships, ashamed of their past, hurt by their childhood - and who may have many other reasons for unhappiness.

Our time together is intended to support you in reaching a place where you feel better able to cope with the ups and downs of life - and maybe reach a place of contentment.

I offer talking therapy, and invite you to talk about whatever is on your mind, so that together we can make sense of your situation.  As we get to know one another, we explore how events and emotions have influenced your life so far, and reach a place where you are able to make decisions based on the present, not the past.

I have an interest in working with the body and, if this makes sense to you, we can pay attention to what our body is saying about your reactions and sense of self.

Building on this, I have a Diploma in Working with Energy in Psychotherapy, and can offer body based exercises as a collaborative, gentle and effective way to calm our energetic system and loosen the hold of past hurts.  These exercises can form part of your self care between sessions.

Practice description

I work with clients who wish to meet face-to-face in my home office in Harpenden.  I can offer onsite parking, and live close to a bus route.

I offer walk and talk therapy in the Harpenden area.

I can also offer sessions by webcam or by telephone to people who live further afield, or who prefer the convenience of these platforms.

There is no minimum or maximum number of sessions.  Many people find it useful to have long term therapy, but others prefer to have shorter term therapy to look at one particular issue.  Some people have a series of sessions, then take a break, and return for further therapy if needed.

All of these approaches are welcome, and the decision as to the length of your time in therapy is entirely yours.  It is helpful if you can let me know if you are thinking of leaving therapy so that we can work towards a satisfying ending.  You will always be welcome to return.
