About me and my therapy practice
I offer Core Process Psychotherapy, which is a type of psychotherapy that combines some Western psychological theories with mindfulness and Buddhist thought.
In my sessions, I aim to provide a warm, accepting, safe space in which we can explore your present and past experiences and patterns at your own pace and bring some curiosity and kindness to them.
I am currently offering online therapy via Zoom to clients who will be able to come for in-person therapy when that becomes safe.
Sessions are weekly and last an hour. I am happy to work both short- and long-term and with or without a time limit.
I am comfortable working with a range of issues and have a special interest in working with low self-esteem and how this can hold us back.
I have an MA in Mindfulness-based Psychotherapeutic Practice and a Higher Professional Diploma in Integrative Counselling.
I have been offering clients first counselling and then psychotherapy since 2011. I am working towards accreditation with BACP and UKCP.
My psychotherapy practice is rooted in and supported by my longstanding meditation practice.
At the heart of Core Process Psychotherapy is the belief that within each of us is a state of inherent health – a ‘core’. This is the part of ourselves that is whole, wise, loving and joyful. Our ‘process’ is our reaction to the world: our thoughts, feelings, and ways of behaving that develop over our lifetime.
Slowing down and paying kind attention to our thoughts, feelings and physical sensations can help us become aware of them and respond to our suffering compassionately and creatively. We also become aware of what resources us and gives us joy.
The supportive environment of therapy offers us the space to notice what our experience is like and how that is for us. This gives us the chance to live with less anxiety and more joy and freedom.
Core Process Psychotherapy was created in 1982. It is one of the first psychotherapeutic approaches to base its theory and practice on mindfulness.
My first session
I offer a free 40-minute initial meeting in which you can see if you want to work with me and I can assess if I am suitable for you. At this session, I would ask you about what brings you to therapy and about your personal history and background.
If we decide to work together, we would agree to six sessions and then review how we are doing in the sixth session. We can then decide whether it feels right to continue.
