About me and my therapy practice

Welcome. What has brought you here today?

There are many reasons why we might seek counselling – experiencing any kind of loss, change, or uncertainty can leave us feeling disconnected from ourselves and others. We may be feeling lost, overwhelmed, or scared. And at times we can feel very alone.

Sometimes we need help to make sense of what is going on for us, a safe space to talk, understand ourselves better, build confidence and learn new skills so that we can do the things that matter in our lives.

Counselling can help you by:

• Talking through what is going on for you without fear of judgement – so that you can find ways to nurture and nourish the parts of yourself that need tending to

• Recognising triggers and early warning signs that can lead to overwhelm – so that you can develop skills to take care of yourself and value your wellbeing

• Helping you set boundaries and manage expectations – your own and others’ – so that you can do the things you want to do in your life

From my work supporting people as a wellbeing group facilitator and as a counsellor, and from my own lived experience, I understand how the many challenges life can throw our way can deeply impact our relationships, health, life goals, choices, and sense of identity.

I am passionate about supporting clients to identify their needs, set boundaries, and find ways to tend to the parts of themselves that may have been left behind.

I would love to help you too.

Practice description

I will offer you warmth, acceptance, compassion, and a safe space to explore whatever you bring to our sessions. Together we will look at what matters to you. My job is not to tell you what to do, but to facilitate a process for you to make sense of what is going on and for you to find the strength within to grow and move forward.

I have experience in working with adults from all walks of life. My core training is in person-centred counselling. The foundations of this approach are central to my practice. I have also undertaken training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). In addition, my practice is nourished by learning about and practicing mindfulness and self-compassion. This means we can explore an approach that suits you.

I am also a group facilitator, WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan) trainer and facilitator. If you would like to work one-to-one with me using Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP) as a self-management model for how to better manage your mental health and wellbeing, please ask for more information.

I am an LGBTQ+ ally. I am Gender Sexual & Relational Diversity (GSRD) and neurodiversity affirming.

They way I work is also informed by my passion for learning and keeping an open mind about ideas and ways of working that are new to me. I continue to develop my practice by attending workshops, training courses, supervision, reading and researching – all of this supports me both professionally and personally.

My first session

I offer a free 15-minute informal introductory phone call to explore what you are looking for from counselling and to see whether there is a good fit.

If working together is a possibility, we will agree a time to meet for our first session. After this, you can then decide if you would like to book further sessions.

Counselling can go on for a handful of sessions or longer, depending on what you need. Together we will periodically review our work to ensure it is meeting your needs.

Each counselling session will be a 50-minute appointment and we will usually meet weekly or every other week.

Please get in touch to book an introductory phone call where we can assess whether we would work well together.
