About me and my therapy practice
Starting counselling can feel like a challenging step to take. That is why I will do my best to help you safely explore your thoughts and feelings without worrying that you will be judged. The sessions will provide a comfortable and supportive environment where you can come to a deeper understanding of yourself and build new resources. The work will not only include talking, but it will also focus on practical tools, so that you know, right from start, that there are things you can do to feel better.
I use approaches and methods which support a sense of collaboration and working together towards the same goal. The particular techniques will depend on what you want to work on and on your style of learning. I draw on a range of methods and skills, including Person-Centred Approach, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Gestalt and Focusing.
My first session
The initial session will give you a sense of how I work, what my approach feels like, and to discuss the practical details of sessions such as frequency, payment and other practicalities. We will talk about your goals and get a clearer idea of the direction of therapy. There is no commitment at this point, and at the end of the session you can either decide to come back for more sessions, take some time to consider options or choose to work with somebody else.
