About me and my therapy practice
I have a particular interest in working with complex or dysfunctional family dynamics. Often the link between difficulties in the present and such a history isn't obvious until explored with care and compassion.
I have a natural, warm and compassionate style in my therapy, building trust and confidence with insight and humour. The therapeutic relationship is the most important part of the work so I welcome an initial conversation to help you get an idea of my style and I'll aim to give you an idea of how I can help you.
I asked a client to describe what working with me had been like:
"I came to see Louise as I was having trouble with anxious thoughts that were affecting my self-esteem and my relationships with others. Over the course of our sessions, Louise helped me to understand about the emotions underlying these anxious thoughts - emotions I had not been allowing myself to experience, like anger and sadness, were becoming 'stuck' because I could not process them, and my thought patterns ended up chasing in circles around these stuck points. Louise's supportive, accepting approach and occasional well-timed challenges to how I was interpreting situations have allowed me to develop a deeper trust in myself and others that has hugely lessened my difficulties. Though I know that there will still be times in my life when I feel anxious, the work I've done with Louise means that I now know how to cope when those times crop up." Client C.J.
Practice description
I have a diploma in Transactional Analysis and am trained in Integrative Psychotherapy, which in simple terms means I have lots of ways that I can help you make sense of what you're feeling. Clients appreciate my ability to identify and analyse patterns and connections in their lives. I have had additional training to work with children and young people and work in a school setting alongside my private practice.
I've worked effectively with both long term and short term clients, transparency and communication is key to ensure you get what you want from the therapy.
Sessions last an hour and are usually arranged weekly.
My first session
I offer a free 30 minute call initially to discuss the reasons you have decided to explore counselling and how you're feeling. I'll give you an idea of how I work and we can talk about if I'm likely to be the right therapist for you. After that we'll arrange a time for a full session where I'll do a more detailed assessment and we'll discuss a course of action from there.
