About me and my therapy practice

Welcome to my profile.

I'm Katie and I'm a humanistic-integrative counsellor and psychotherapist who believes that everybody, regardless of difference, deserves to live an authentic and fulfilling life. I understand however, that life can be very distressing and the challenges we face can often get in the way of living a life we truly want and need. We can also find ourselves being completely unaware of why life feels this way and can sometimes leave us feeling lost and unable to move forward.

I believe however, that psychological distress is a very normal response to adverse circumstances - past or present - and that everybody has a unique way of experiencing. Therefore, I will help you gain further understanding of these experiences, even if they feel overwhelming at the moment or have been for some time.

Qualifications, experience and background

I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist offering online counselling. I have over 7 years of experience supporting people with autism, learning difficulties and ADHD and provide specialist mentoring to adult students with mental health difficulties. I have completed a BSc Honours degree in Psychology and Clinical Psychology at the University of Lincoln, and have completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in Counselling and a Masters in Counselling at York St John University.

For my Masters, I completed a year-long research project where I explored transgender clients’ experiences of their therapeutic relationships with their counsellors. This research project and further training has enabled me to develop additional understandings of the issues that the LGBT+ community face and the impact they have on mental health. I chose this research topic as I feel very passionate about promoting LGBT+ inclusive and affirmative practice and to further expand my skills as an LGBT+ affirmative practitioner.

Practice description

As I am very interested in how you view the world around you, I tailor my approach to best suit your needs and work in ways that are guided by your own pace. I believe that this helps to both create and maintain a trusting and safe therapeutic space for you to explore any issues you have, make a clearer sense of things, and to help you feel empowered to lead a more fulfilling life.

My areas of interest are anxiety, low mood/depression, LGBT+ issues and neurodiversity.

I understand that choosing counselling as the next step in your life can be a very daunting and scary experience. Therefore, I offer a free 20-minute online consultation where you can explain any issues you are facing, ask me any questions, and to see if we would make a good fit for your counselling journey.
