About me and my therapy practice
My specialism is on the impacts of trauma, such as PTSD, adult and childhood sexual abuse, sexual trauma, domestic abuse and emotional abuse. I also frequently work with adult clients with problems such as depression, anxiety, panic attacks, stress, low self-esteem, relationship problems, self-destructive behaviours and addictions, eating disorders and body image issues.
I have genuine empathy for anyone who is struggling with difficulties in their life. Unhelpful and counter-productive patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving can contribute to poor mental health, dissatisfaction with life and unhappiness. Traumatic experiences in childhood and/or as an adult can compound the problems and make life seem very difficult to navigate.
I understand the courage it requires to take the first step and seek help. But I also know that it is possible to find a way through challenging personal issues and lead a happier and more productive life, with more meaningful relationships and less emotional instability.
About me and how I work
I will actively listen and offer you my skills, time and understanding to talk about your issues, with the aim of reducing negative feelings and confusion and increasing your ability to cope with challenges and make positive changes to your life.
It is important that the counselling relationship is one of trust and respect. I will be impartial and non-judgemental, providing a safe and confidential environment for you to explore and make sense of who you are, your life and your experiences. My role as a counsellor is to support you to explore your thought and behaviour patterns, and this may involve gently challenging your beliefs and thought processes in order to help you see things from different perspectives.
Practice description
Counselling sessions are 50 minutes long and are £50 per session.
Sessions are usually booked at the same time each week for the duration of therapy.
Counselling is open-ended and therefore there is no limit to the number of sessions. Regular reviews are undertaken to assess how the client is progressing.
Face-to-Face Counselling
Individual counselling sessions are available at my private practice in Orpington, Kent. I work from a safe and confidential garden office room and there is ample private parking on site. It is easily accessible from towns close by, including Bromley, Chislehurst, Petts Wood, Beckenham, Sevenoaks and Tonbridge.
Online Counselling
If you are unable to make face-to-face counselling sessions, it is possible to have online counselling via Zoom instead. This means I am able to see clients located anywhere in the UK.
I am a Certified Online Counsellor.
Please note that I do not offer telephone or text counselling sessions.
Additional Information
I have a 24-hour notice cancellation policy otherwise the full fee is charged.
My fees are renewed annually in January.
My first session
If you are considering counselling and would like to speak to me about this, please contact me.
I offer a free of charge initial online assessment of up to 30 minutes via Zoom or WhatsApp video to discuss your counselling requirements and expectations. This gives you the opportunity to meet me, to establish whether my skills are a good match for your particular issues, and to see how we both feel about working together.
If we agree that the fit seems right, we can commence counselling sessions. Before the first session I will send you a counselling agreement that you can read through and return to me. This outlines information around confidentiality and working safely, and payment details. If there are any questions regarding the agreement, you can let me know before we start.
In the first session together you can give me a more detailed understanding of your current issues and we can agree what your goals are and what you would like to look at together first. We will undertake regular reviews throughout our work to see how things are going and whether your needs have changed.
