About me and my therapy practice
FYI I work online. A no obligation first session is offered at a reduced rate.
Feeling validated, finding meaning and making sense of thoughts and feelings with support from someone alongside them can bring great relief and progress to our wellbeing through therapy. I help my clients make their own choices, which means you have control over the direction our sessions take, as I work within a person-centered approach - working alongside you as a person and how you relate to issues in your life, helping you to understand yourself better as opposed to 'treating problems'.
I welcome counselling clients seeking help with anxiety, depression, relationships, trauma, grief, ADHD, anger, OCD, body image, self-worth etc. I am a LGBTQIA-welcoming, HAES-aligned accredited counsellor and supervisor.
Working from a HAES-aligned perspective and as a trainer in fat discrimination, I welcome anyone wanting support with body shame. I am also interested in the Mother-Daughter relationship and enjoy working with teenagers or parents of teenagers, as well as adults of all ages and am happy to undertake long-term as well as short-term work.
I also offer one-off Therapeutic Consultations with Parents who need support with their children's mental health because being a parent to a teenager is complex enough even without additional crises such as mental health, gender transitioning etc, so I am offering this service for you to be able to offload to someone about how hard it it and give you support during a difficult time. My aim is to signpost you to further resources and next steps so you feel less alone. I can obviously work with your child in therapy instead, but sometimes the long-term cost is prohibitive or your child does not want to attend therapy. I have also realised that sometimes the best support for a young person is by supporting and advising their parent.

About me and my therapy practice
I offer clinical supervision to counsellors and other practitioners in a variety of the helping professions especially School Counsellors as having worked in schools in various roles for almost 30 years I understand the subtle complex nuances of working as a therapist in an educational setting.
I am a qualified counsellor, supervisor and teacher and I am an accredited member of the BACP. I have experience of supervising counsellors in private practice, trainee therapists completing their studies, Local Authority staff, as well as teachers and other practitioners who work with young people. I have particular experience of working in school settings.
My belief about the purpose of supervision is that it is:
- anything that engages you in the development of your practice and promotes and safeguards the wellbeing of you and your clients
- anything which supports and facilitates your learning, understanding, growth and development as a practitioner
- a collaborative process.

About me and my therapy practice
I am a Fat Acceptance Trainer and Body Empowerment Coach transforming people’s relationships with their bodies towards RADICAL BODY ACCEPTANCE. I empower women to liberate themselves from the stigma and shame of their bodies to have more courage, compassion and self-acceptance and stop the generational cycle of body shame.
With 20 years experience working with body liberation, an MSc in Weight Stigma in Therapy, 14 years working as a psychotherapist and 30 years as a teacher (most recently training therapists in unconscious fatphobia), I am confident that through 1:1 coaching I can empower you to be the best version of yourself with the body you already have. Having been through the journey myself I am fully liberated in my body and I adore enabling others to be too!
Testimonials
'Working with Jo lifted those heavy things off me and gave me the chance to breathe in the cool air of self acceptance. It felt like magic because after so long I feel so different.'
'To anyone considering sessions with Jo. You deserve to love your body. Doesn't mean it will always take on the shape it is now but that is ok. For me it is about the wasted heart ache and energy from hating it along the way. Jo can help you to take back your power and teach you to champion yourself in a world that tries to dictate your worth through those statistics. Your body got you here so give it some love, it deserves it.’
