About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I am Sue, Thank you for stopping to look at my profile, I hope you find what you are searching for here. I offer individual counselling, I am an experienced BACP registered, accredited counsellor with 15 years- experience in a range of counselling settings: primary care mental health, bereavement, sexual abuse and drug and alcohol counselling. I am a qualified experienced counselling supervisor and lecturer. Before becoming a counsellor I worked in mental health services and managed a mental health advocacy service, after which I moved into education where I worked for over 10 years as a lecturer of counselling. I have been in private practice now for 4 years and have a comfortable accessible therapy room in Denbigh with good public transport links and parking opposite. I am an ACTO certified online and telephone therapist and can offer session via phone or video call. I believe all approaches have value and can with your agreement draw on a range of approaches in our work together. At the centre of this is ensuring you feel respected and accepted, it is the therapeutic relationship that is key in the success of therapy. I believe that therapy works best when you feel you have a safe confidential space in which to talk about your life and anything that may be confusing, painful or uncomfortable. Client Testimonial: "Sue has a soothing, calm, empathetic presence. She has fantastic insight to offer and is very supportive. I really feel that Sue has changed my life and am eternally grateful for her encouragement" JJ 2018.  A little about me, I enjoy the outdoors, walking and cycling, I recently completed British Cycling training to lead groups in easy-moderate level mixed road and off-road environments. Along with training in delivering therapy outdoors can offer the opportunity to engage in this as a well-being activity. I am also a HSBC UK Breeze Champion, an initiative that offers free fun bike rides for women of all abilities.

Practice description

My approach is to provide a space where you can make sense of your thoughts, feelings and experiences. I will draw on all of my training and experience to help you to work towards a resolution to the issues that bring you to seek counselling.

I can offer both short and longer term counselling subject to regular review.

My first session

In our first session I will seek to understand as fully as possible  you and the problem you are bringing to counselling, this will include a comprehensive assessment. Although it may seem somewhat daunting, it is important that I can gain a sense of who you are and what concerns you at this point in your life. It may be that your difficulties are best served by a specialist agency, if this is the case we can discuss this in the initial session. It is equally important that you get an opportunity to assess whether you wish to work with me beyond this first session.

About me and my therapy practice

Supervision is a process of facilitating a collaborative interaction, to protect the interests of and serve the needs of the client/s. Supervision further enhances and enables practitioner development in relation to current practice and maximising the competence of the supervisee in helping clients. The aim of supervision is to provide an attentive and supportive climate within which the supervisee can develop new options for managing themselves and their work with greater satisfaction and effectiveness.

I am an experienced  counsellor, supervisor and lecturer, 13+ years experience as a counsellor across a range of issues including rape and sexual abuse, addictions, complex bereavement and grief and dual diagnosis work in counselling agencies and through my own private practice. I have a background in mental health and advocacy prior to my move into education in 2010, where I have gained experience of teaching counselling across all levels and am experienced in supervising both student and qualified counsellors. I can work out of rooms in Colwyn Bay and Denbigh.
