About me and my therapy practice
I'm Dr Damaris Mwangi, PhD, MA Counselling and Psychotherapy, BA (Hons.), a Licensed Integrative Psychotherapist based in West London with over 15 years of experience.
I work with adults experiencing anxiety and depression, offering a personalised approach that draws on Person-Centred, Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approaches. With specialist training in Person-Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression (PCE-CfD) and a background in social science research, I remain mindful of the social, cultural and relational factors that shape emotional wellbeing.
My aim is to provide a warm, accepting, and compassionate space where you can explore your experiences safely and without judgement. Building a therapeutic relationship that feels authentic, confidential, and supportive is central to my practice. Together, we can work towards the goals that matter to you, helping you develop greater self-awareness, resilience, and confidence as you navigate life's challenges.
I also hold a Diploma in PCE-CfD Supervision and offer online supervision to counsellors and psychotherapists working within the PCE-CfD model.
The use of the title Dr in this directory listing relates to the member’s doctorate qualification. However, this does not imply a general medical qualification.

Practice description
Many of the people I work with appear capable and composed on the outside while feeling overwhelmed, low, restless, or stuck on the inside. Whether you're experiencing anxiety, depression, or both, it can be hard to slow down, feel settled, or believe you're doing enough. Together, we can explore patterns such as overthinking, self-pressure, perfectionism, people-pleasing, numbness, exhaustion, or feeling disconnected from yourself.
As an integrative psychotherapist, I draw on Person-Centred, Psychodynamic, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approaches, adapting therapy to your individual needs and goals. This may involve understanding how past experiences influence the present, deepening self-awareness, or developing practical ways to manage difficult thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.
I have specialist training in Person-Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression (PCE-CfD). Central to this approach is slowing things down and making space for emotions that may feel overwhelming, unclear, or difficult to express. Rather than focusing only on symptoms, we work towards understanding what your feelings might be communicating about your experiences and needs. Many people find this leads to greater self-compassion and lasting change.
My approach is warm, collaborative, and paced with care. I aim to provide a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space where you feel heard, understood, and respected. Together, we will explore what has brought you to therapy and work towards goals that feel meaningful to you, helping you develop greater resilience, self-understanding, and confidence.
My first session
I offer a free 15-minute phone or video call, giving us a chance to briefly connect, talk about what has led you to seek therapy, and answer any questions you may have. If it feels right to move forward, we can arrange the format, date, and time of your first session.
The first therapy session is charged at my standard rate and provides a gentle opportunity for us to begin getting to know each other. We can explore what is happening for you at the moment, what feels difficult, and what you hope therapy might offer. There is no expectation to share more than feels comfortable, and we will move at a pace that feels right for you.
We'll also talk through confidentiality, how I work, and any practical arrangements, so you have a clear understanding of what to expect. Many people find that taking this first step helps them feel more settled, supported, and hopeful about the therapeutic process.
