About me and my therapy practice

I am an Integrative Child and Adolescent Therapist DipHE5. I qualified in 2014 after 4 years of training at the Renew Counselling training centre in Chelmsford, which was run under the Anglian Ruskin University. Here I was taught a wide range of theoretical approaches, such as Psychodynamic, CBT, Gestalt and Person-Centred. I was also taught how to use these models in play, art and narrative therapy. In the last year of studying and placement, I decided that the person-centred approach would be my core concept, whilst bringing the other theory-based approaches into the session if I felt it would be beneficial to the client. I still use this approach today and have found it extremely beneficial, as I believe a one shoe fits all method does not work in a world so diverse. I have been extremely privileged to have worked in a variety of environments, from Pru’s, SEN schools to a Women’s Refuge. The work has been extremely challenging, but I recognise this is what I levitate towards, to quote Carl Rogers, I believe this is me fulfilling my actualizing tendencies. I recognise that this work drives me to grow, develop and hopefully one day, with the right support, gain my full potential as a counsellor and a human being.

Practice description

The purpose of clinical supervision is to provide a supportive, developmental, creative, non- judgemental environment, yet challenging collaborative space for the supervisee to explore all matters relating to client work within an empathetic integrative framework. I aim to provide a reflective working environment that will be safe and containing, in order that you the (supervisee) can feel able to bring all dilemmas without fear of criticism.

I will aim to provide constructive feedback with the intention of encouraging the supervisee’s development, theoretical knowledge and skill base, and will aim to direct you towards working within the ethical framework of your governing body, where appropriate. This will extend to supporting the supervisee to also work within the remits of their organisations’ policies and procedures.

I offer supervision in accordance with the BACP and UKPC ethical framework for counsellors and supervisors, and practice from a Humanistic modality, using psychodynamic interventions within our collaborative relationship.

As a member of the BACP I attend monthly supervision of a minimum of 90 minutes per session. During supervision I discuss supervisees’ sessions, although supervisee’s name’s and details will be anonymised.

My first session

In the first session I will complete a small assessment to understand if we are able to work together. An example of this would be to understand , your preferred name? what inspired you to become a therapist? Where do you work / your placement?
Previous experiences of supervision? Your expectations of supervision? Your likes and dislikes? and any additional needs or requirements I need to be aware of.  I might also ask you some other questions like, What is your core theoretical approach? What professional body do you follow? Who are you insured with for your therapeutic work? What organisational needs do we both have to consider? Model of training? Describe in a few words the way you work? Current client group? Estimated weekly client contact hours? Placement/where you work. Governing Body (i.e. BACP, UKCP, etc). Professional Indemnity Insurance provider? Do you prefer on-line or face to face supervision - any preference? Any Organisation or course requirements? Required supervision hours? and are you are you a member of ICO?
