About me and my therapy practice

I have worked in the field of mental health for twenty years now. I started off working for a mental health charity where I spent time supporting service users both in the community and in a hospital setting. I’ve also worked as a befriender supporting clients with OCD. I spent my training years working for a domestic abuse charity.  I am a qualified teacher and enjoy training counsellors and training tutors to teach counselling. I am a member of BICA (British Infertility Counselling Association). My particular areas of interest are domestic abuse and fertility.

My supervisory practice, much like my counselling approach is integrative - informed by two key supervision models (the Seven-eyed model of supervision and what is often called the Functions model of supervision. My intention is to provide a reflective supervision space which supports you in your clinical practice hopefully with minimal or ideally no fear or shame.

My supervision style will vary depending on your goals for supervision but my aim is to work in a collaborative way rather than me adopting a prescriptive way of working which could impact your autonomy.

Practice description

While a directive approach may be necessary when it comes to risk and safeguarding, my aim is to work in a collegial way, exploring clients presenting issues, interventions and skills together.

My first session

The first session will be spent exploring how we both work and what we both expect from one another in order that we can decide if we think we might be able to work with each other potentially on a long term basis. For example, I will ask some open questions to gather information about your clinical practice to understand what you are looking for in a supervisor and whether I think I 'fit the bill'.

About me and my therapy practice

Thank you for having a look at my profile. Please contact me if you have any questions. I hope what you read is useful and tells you what you need to know when making a decision about who you might contact. It’s a big decision.

There is potential to incorporate a psychoeducational element into the work we do but only if that’s what we mutually agree. I am a member of BICA (British Infertility Counselling Association). My particular areas of interest are domestic abuse and fertility.

I have been providing counselling to adults for over 10 years now. I work in a non-directive way which in a nutshell means I won’t be suggesting what is right for you. As a member of BACP, I take my commitment to providing ethical practice seriously. Mental health is so important - it is worth investing in and equally as important is finding a counsellor who you think is a good fit for you.

Practice description

I am an integrative counsellor- this means I work from a person centred foundation which I think is important to building hopefully a honest and genuine relationship. We may discuss looking at some cognitive tools or techniques depending on what it is that has brought you to counselling. This works really well for some people and it isn’t other people’s cup of tea in which case we’ll review our plan. I won’t tell you what to do- we could explore what you might like to do and what looks or feels like your best option. I hope that briefly gives you some details of how I work.

My first session

Our first session will be spent exploring what you would like to achieve and how we might achieve it together. I can tell you more about how we might work together and you can ask any questions you have. I remember my first counselling sessions and subsequent first sessions with a new counsellor and it was daunting! I will try to put you at ease, you can tell me later on if I did a good job or not.
