About me and my therapy practice

I am a qualified supervisor with experience in supporting trainee and qualified counsellors. My aim is to provide a supervisory relationship that is caring, supportive and growth inducing.

Similarly to choosing a therapist, it is important to choose the right counselling supervisor for you. It is helpful to consider if a supervisor is a good fit for the way in which you work, the type of clients you work with and the context/s you work in.

My preferred supervision model is Inskipp and Proctor's (2001) tasks of supervision, which cover support (restorative), learning and growth (formative) and monitoring (normative). I am also informed by parallel process and reflexivity. I am happy to be challenged and value supervision, seeing it as a safe place for supervisees to explore their work.

Practice description

Supervision is a two-way process of shared responsibilities between supervisee and supervisor. I understand the purpose of supervision is to monitor and safeguard the interest of clients and to monitor and promote the welfare of the counsellor including their continued development and learning. It is also helpful in optimising the effectiveness of the therapeutic relationship. Good supervision ensures that ethical standards are maintained as set out by the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice.

My own practice integrates Person Centred and Gestalt theories and Existential philosophy. My client work is also informed by Attachment Theory and Transactional Analysis. I have also gained some knowledge of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques. I enjoy working creatively both within my client work and supervision sessions.

My experience of offering supervision has been developed from supporting groups of both qualified and trainee volunteer counsellors within a paid role at Phyllis Tuckwell in Farnham. I enjoy working alongside trainee counsellors and supporting and witnessing their growth and learning.

Within my private practice I support supervisees on a 1-1 basis on either a fortnightly or monthly basis depending on their individual needs or requirements.

Supervision fees: 1 hour £70.00 or 1.5 hours £100.00

About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I'm Sarah, a Counsellor, Psychotherapist & Supervisor based in Godalming, Surrey. I offer counselling to adults, young people, trainee counsellors (at a reduced rate) and couples.

I offer a safe and confidential space for you to talk through any issues or challenges that you may be experiencing. It can be helpful to explore what is going on for you and to share your fears, thoughts and feelings.

Working Together - what to expect

My aim is to provide you with a relationship built upon trust, openness and honesty, where you can feel accepted without judgement. I will not give advice or offer the answers to your problems, but I will remain alongside you and help you find your own way forward.

I can help you find a better way of coping with issues and help you identify and explore the root of your problem/s. I will also help you to better understand yourself, in how you think, feel, react and respond. I take the lead from my client and work at their pace and gently challenge when appropriate to facilitate different/new perspectives and to help increase self awareness.

When working with couples my aim is to provide you with a private space to explore any issues or concerns within your relationship. It is an opportunity to gain new perspectives of each other and learn new ways of being together. This is often enabled by improving communication and exploring differences, conflict styles, intimacy and identifying both partners wants and needs.

My role is to support you both in a caring and non judgemental way, to facilitate good communication between you and help you find the way forward that is right for each of you.

My fees are available upon request and on my website.

Practice description

I am a professionally trained counsellor with a degree in Humanistic Counselling and a BA (Hons) in Counselling. I integrate further training into my practice which enables me to offer therapy to suit the individual as opposed to offering only one fit for all.

My experience has been developed from working with many different clients facing different challenges over the last seven years in my private practice at The Eaves.

I also worked extensively with Bereaved/Pre- Bereaved clients and their families (often carers) as a staff counsellor at Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice in Farnham.  My work included supporting clients through their adjustment to illness, losses and grief alongside supporting them with other issues and challenges.

I enjoy working with young people and gained valuable experience of working with young people from my work for the Youth Counselling Service in Guildford (NHS/Virgin Care).

My main practice is at The Eaves in Godalming (GU7 1NJ) near Guildford, Surrey. The rooms are private and comfortable and there is a waiting area in the reception area.

I also see clients in Headley, Hampshire GU35 by request.

My first session

I offer long and short term therapy. Short term therapy can be beneficial for finding coping strategies, managing lifestyle changes and other minor issues. Long term therapy is more beneficial for deeper rooted issues. I regularly review how therapy is going with my clients to ensure it is helpful and effective.

I offer an initial free assessment for counselling via Zoom or telephone (around 20 minutes) This is an opportunity for us to meet, discuss what brings you to therapy and ensure that I am the right person to support you.

Prior to our first session, I will ask you to complete and return two forms, a contract and personal details form.

I understand that seeking counselling can be a daunting prospect and do my upmost to create an environment where my client feels comfortable and at ease.
