I work online across the UK (my advanced certificate training in supervision had specific focus on online supervision as a key component of the overall supervision training) and offer in-person supervision from my practice in Hexham, Northumberland.
I completed training that is to the BACP supervision competence framework, the National Counselling Society (NCS) Good practice guide for supervision and the Association for Counselling and Therapy Online (ACTO) Online supervision competencies.
About me and my therapy practice
You are no doubt reading this page because you are looking for an experienced and reliable supervisor. This may be for the first time, if you are a trainee or newly qualified therapist, or from a need to find a new supervisor or a supplementary one with specific expertise to help you support your valuable client work. Either way, let me tell you more about my experience, approach and areas of expertise.
I am a qualified supervisor (Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Supervision including online and telephone supervision). I use the Hawkins and Shohet 7 Eyed Model to frame and guide my work with supervisees. This applies to working online and face to face. I work collaboratively with the aim of fostering the best therapeutic support for the client. This, of course, embraces fostering your clinical skills, professional growth and personal welfare.
Critically, I believe, I also bring a wealth of my own experience gained from over eight years in a thriving private practice in addition to provide therapy in private organisational and charity environments. I practice integrative psychotherapy with a psychodynamic focus. Whilst I work across a range of client issues, I have invested in growing a specialism in complex trauma, including dissociative conditions.
Sessions are flexible within the normal working week and in order for you to get a feel and sense of how we could work together I offer a free session (up to 50 minutes) to discuss your supervision needs.

About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified and experienced psychotherapist with a thriving private practice established for over 10 years. I work with adults on an individual basis, with couples and as a supervisor of counsellors (see separate listings for more detailed information on the latter practice service). I work with clients in person within my area and online across the UK.
For individuals, I offer short-term counselling and longer-term psychotherapy across a range of issues including anxiety and depression, loss and bereavement, challenges relating to low self esteem, identity and despair (including suicidal thoughts and impulses) and issues underlying addiction for those in recovery from active addiction
Within my clinical practice, I also offer specialist expertise in working with trauma, including PTSD, complex trauma and dissociative disorders including Dissociative Identity Disorder. This is mainly, but not exclusively around adult survivors of childhood neglect and abuse.
I am a trained practitioner of Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy and I am an Associate Member of the British Emotionally Focused Therapy Centre. Please refer to my website for more information on my work with couples and fees.
I also am a qualified supervisor of counsellors - more information on supervision can be found on separate listing.
I am a registered and accredited member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP). Accredited membership means I have met the BACP's higher standard as a competent, ethical and independent practitioner.
I endeavour to remain up to date with current developments in psychotherapy in its broadest sense, including research in neuro-science and psychology. I am committed to an on-going programme of continued professional development, in accordance with the ethical guidelines of the BACP. I also receive weekly supervision from a senior accredited therapist as a critical element of my own growth and ethics as a counsellor and psychotherapist.
Practice description
I studied integrative psycotherapy at post graduate level at Regents University, London. During this three year training I also gained extensive clinical experience in anxiety and depression, trauma, physical, emotional and sexual abuse, personality disorders and addiction in a variety of professional settings.Integrative psychotherapy simply means that my training has encompassed a broad range of models and theories of psychology, psychotherapy and counselling (psychodynamic, humanistic, extistential and behavioural). I draw on these diverse but often complimentary theories and approaches to tailor a path with the potential for change and healing for each individual client.
More information on how I work and what to expect can be found from my website - www.pamelabruce.com or call me on 07501 477555.
My first session
With everyone who contacts me and wishes explore the option of therapy, I request an initial assessment. I recommend that this is done face to face although if necessary it can be conducted by telephone or online. The initial assessment has proved an important step for me and for my clients. It gives us both the opportunity to explore the circumstances which have brought you to counselling, what you hope to achieve and to agree if counselling is the most appropriate way forward for you and, most importantly of all, to decide if we would feel able to work together. The very nature of successful psychotherapy and counselling can involve intense emotions, and an often previously unexperienced level of honesty and vulnerability. It is imperative that you feel you would have the potential to have this quality of working relationship with me, and I with you.
