Please feel free to contact me to discuss your supervision needs and find a time that works best for you. I look forward to supporting you in your professional growth and development.
About me and my therapy practice
I'm Caroline Hounsell, an accredited psychotherapist (MBACP) and qualified counselling supervisor with over 20 years' experience supporting individuals, professionals and organisations.
My supervisory practice is grounded in Person-Centred principles, inspired by Carl Rogers' belief in the importance of empathy, authenticity and unconditional positive regard. I see supervision as a collaborative relationship where you can explore your practice openly, develop confidence and deepen your understanding of yourself as a therapist.
I offer supervision to trainee and qualified counsellors and psychotherapists, supporting you to reflect on your client work, explore ethical dilemmas, develop your therapeutic identity and navigate challenges with greater confidence.
Alongside my Person-Centred foundation, I bring extensive experience as an integrative psychotherapist, including EMDR trauma therapy, psychoeducation and working with complex presentations. This allows me to support supervisees working with trauma, anxiety, relationships, emotional regulation and a wide range of client experiences.
Through my work with Lovemind.life, mental health consultancy, training and leadership development, I have supported professionals across healthcare, education, government, charities and businesses. I am passionate about creating a supervisory relationship where equality, diversity and inclusion are embedded in our work together.
My aim is to provide a safe, reflective and empowering space where you can grow as a therapist while developing the confidence, self-awareness and skills needed to support your clients.
Practice description
Supervision is an essential part of developing as a therapist. I offer a warm, reflective and collaborative supervisory space where you can explore your client work, reflect on your practice and develop your confidence as a practitioner.
My approach is rooted in Person-Centred supervision, placing the supervisory relationship at the heart of our work. I believe that when supervisees feel accepted, valued and genuinely understood, they are better able to reflect honestly, recognise their strengths and continue to grow.
I work with trainee and qualified counsellors and psychotherapists at different stages of their professional journey. Together, we can explore client dynamics, therapeutic process, ethical considerations, boundaries, self-awareness and the challenges that arise within therapeutic work.
As an Person Centred integrative psychotherapist, I also bring knowledge and experience of EMDR trauma therapy, attachment, psychoeducation and working with complex client presentations. This enables me to support supervisees who are expanding their therapeutic approaches while remaining grounded in their own authentic style.
My supervision aims to balance support and challenge, creating a space where you can bring uncertainty, celebrate progress and develop as a confident, ethical and compassionate practitioner.
Whether you are a trainee counsellor seeking your first supervisor or an experienced therapist looking for reflective practice, I offer a supervisory relationship built on trust, curiosity and mutual respect.
My first session
Your first supervision session is an opportunity for us to begin building our supervisory relationship and explore whether we are the right fit to work together.
We will discuss your training or professional background, your therapeutic approach, your current client work and what you hope to gain from supervision. This is also a chance for you to ask questions and understand how I work as a supervisor.
There is no formal assessment. Instead, we focus on creating a collaborative foundation based on openness, trust and mutual respect.
During supervision, you will have a confidential and supportive space to reflect on your client work, explore challenges, consider different perspectives and develop your confidence as a therapist.
My role is not to provide all the answers, but to help you develop your own reflective capacity, therapeutic identity and clinical confidence. Together, we will explore your work with curiosity, compassion and professional integrity.
I look forward to supporting you as you continue to grow and develop as a counsellor or psychotherapist.

About me and my therapy practice
Life can sometimes leave us feeling overwhelmed, stuck or disconnected from ourselves. Whether you're experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties or simply feel that something isn't quite right, therapy can offer the space to understand yourself more deeply and create meaningful, lasting change.
I believe every person has the capacity for growth and healing. Sometimes we simply need the right relationship, greater understanding and the opportunity to reconnect with our authentic selves.
I'm Caroline Hounsell, an accredited psychotherapist (MBACP) with over 20 years' experience working with adults, young people, couples and families. Person-Centred Psychotherapy is at the heart of my practice, guided by Carl Rogers' core conditions of empathy, authenticity and unconditional positive regard.
Alongside this, I integrate EMDR trauma therapy and other evidence-informed approaches to meet your individual needs. One of the things clients often value most is the psychoeducation I bring to therapy, helping them understand why they think, feel and respond the way they do. I believe that understanding creates choice, and choice creates lasting, meaningful change.
I don't believe people are broken or need fixing. My role is to walk alongside you, helping you process difficult experiences, recognise your strengths and build the confidence to move forward. My hope is that you leave therapy not only feeling heard and supported, but also with a deeper understanding of yourself and the tools to continue growing long after our work together has ended.
Whether I'm working with an individual, couple, family or another therapist in supervision, my aim is always the same: to provide a safe, compassionate and collaborative relationship where genuine healing and personal growth can take place.
Practice description
Choosing the right therapist is an important decision, and I believe feeling safe, understood and genuinely accepted is where meaningful therapy begins.
I offer a warm, compassionate and confidential space where you can explore whatever is happening in your life without judgement. Together, we work at a pace that feels right for you, building a therapeutic relationship based on trust, honesty and collaboration.
I work with adults, young people, couples and families experiencing difficulties including anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, relationship difficulties, family conflict, grief, low self-esteem, stress, burnout, life transitions and emotional overwhelm.
As a Person-Centred integrative therapist, I tailor therapy to each individual rather than expecting people to fit one particular model. My work combines the relational depth of Person-Centred Psychotherapy with EMDR trauma therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Transactional Analysis (TA), psychoeducation and other evidence-informed approaches.
A significant part of my work is helping people understand themselves. Many clients value learning how their brain, nervous system, attachment experiences and past events influence their thoughts, emotions and behaviours. I believe that understanding creates choice, and choice creates lasting change.
Alongside my psychotherapy practice, I provide clinical supervision for trainee and qualified counsellors and psychotherapists, as well as coaching for business leaders developing emotionally intelligent leadership and healthier workplaces.
My aim is not simply to help you cope, but to support you in developing greater self-awareness, resilience and confidence, so you leave therapy feeling empowered to continue your own journey.
I offer face-to-face sessions from my practice in East Sussex and secure online therapy worldwide. Flexible weekday appointments are available.
My first session
Beginning therapy can feel like a significant step, and it's completely natural to feel uncertain or nervous.
Our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and explore what has brought you to therapy. We'll discuss what's happening in your life, what you would like to change and what you hope to achieve through our work together.
Rather than completing lengthy assessments or expecting you to tell your whole life story immediately, I focus on creating a safe, relaxed and supportive environment where you can begin to share at your own pace. There is no pressure to have all the answers or know exactly where to begin.
This first session also gives us both the opportunity to decide whether we feel we are the right fit. A strong therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors in successful therapy, so it's important that you feel comfortable, heard and understood.
From the very beginning, I aim to help you make sense of your experiences. Alongside listening with empathy and compassion, I may introduce gentle psychoeducation to help you understand why you may be feeling or responding in certain ways. Many people find that simply understanding themselves differently brings a sense of relief and hope.
Therapy is about far more than talking about problems. It's about discovering your strengths, healing emotional wounds, improving relationships, building resilience and creating a life that feels more authentic and fulfilling.
If we decide to continue working together, we'll develop a therapeutic approach that feels right for you and supports the goals that matter most in your life.
