About me and my therapy practice

I trained and qualified as a Supervisor in 2020. My trainer was Bob Cooke, who is highly respected in Manchester and has run the Manchester Institute for Psychotherapy for many years. Bob's training is closely allied to the approach taken by Hawkins and Shohet in their book, Supervision in the Helping Professions. I like Robin Shohet's observation that supervision is about taking the fear out of the work that we do. My approach to supervision is empowering and supportive. I offer regular supervision contracts for both qualified therapists and students undertaking placement work.

Practice description

I have a broad and relational approach to supervision. I am especially interested in using reflective writing with people who work in the caring professions and I have recently been able to develop some ideas by working with third year medical students. Supervision with me could include reflective writing between or preparatory to each session as a basis for our conversations - but there is no obligation if writing doesn't appeal to you. I charge £80 for each 90-minute session and this covers any extra time spent reading written work.

My first session

I offer a free 20-minute Zoom appointment so that we can see if we think we are a good fit! I have a standard intake form for you to complete before our first 'proper' supervision session.

About me and my therapy practice

I love to work with creative people - artists, musicians, entrepreneurs and people with vision. I am a late-diagnosed autistic woman and I am very welcoming of LGBTQ+ clients. Having reached the age of 60 I have a lot of life experience and I can fully empathise with clients who are going through work-life challenges, identity struggles, loss and bereavement. I am not the sort of therapist who just nods - I can challenge you but always from a place of curiosity and support. Working with me offers the opportunity for deep conversation about whatever you want to explore.

Practice description

I have a busy private practice which was once based in Manchester City centre but is now mostly online - which means I can work internationally and I have many ex-pat clients. Working online suits a lot of people - it's flexible and as long as we both have a reliable internet connection it doesn't matter where we are - nomadic workers welcome! If there are times when you need a break from the screen, we can meet face to face in Prestwich, North Manchester, or switch to a telephone based session. (I don't go straight to phone-based working without meeting you first.)

My first session

The first session is a getting-to-know you session for both of us. You can ask me questions and tell me what you want to get out of therapy. I don't ask you to complete questionnaires. I enjoy working with people who are looking for honest connection. The relationship with a therapist is like no other - unlike some friendships, you needn't have any concerns about burdening me or boring me - I want to understand you and there are times when I will challenge your thinking to see if there is another way forward.

About me and my therapy practice

'Talking therapies' can help us to work through grief, anger, guilt and frustration. I offer unconditional support and confidentiality, allowing you to untangle your thoughts. It can be such a relief to share the feelings you usually have to hide.

I am a qualified, experienced and insured psychotherapist working in private practice. I am 60, and I have been through my share of life's ups and downs. I am available to offer you not only support, but help to think things through.

I welcome the opportunity to work with autistic and ADHD people, and welcome LGBTQ+ clients.

Working online has turned out to be a great option for a lot of people - it's very flexible, and there's no travelling involved, which is good for the planet! But we can also use a cosy private counselling office at Creative Calm which is easy to find on Bury New Road in Prestwich. I also offer telephone-based therapy because I know that some people find online meetings stressful - there's more about this on my website.

Practice description

I like to build a relationship with my clients. A good therapist can offer a relationship unlike any other - you can speak completely honestly and openly about whatever is on your mind, knowing that I will always be working to support you - but I'll also ask you questions and challenge your thinking from time to time. Talking about feelings can be hard work, and emotional, but often there is a lot of laughter too, and a sense of release when you confront things that have been troubling you.

About me and my therapy practice

Offering couples therapy online and in Prestwich, north Manchester. I provide a structured framework enabling you to dialogue safely and effectively. Acknowledge and explore difficulties within your relationship - celebrate the good things - find new ways to go forward together as a couple or work together towards a different future.

Practice description

I am a supportive and welcoming therapist. Sessions are 90 minutes, usually fortnightly, either in person or online. I'll teach you a safe way to dialogue within a standardised and predictable framework. This suits autistic and ADHD people particularly well. I have ten years' experience of working in private practice and I am very happy to welcome couples of all kinds. Learning to talk and listen respectfully and openly can also be of great benefit to work colleagues, family members and siblings - or any pair of people looking to deepen their connection. Where the purpose of couples therapy is to work towards ending the relationship, I am also available to work supportively with both of you.

My first session

The first session is an hour and costs £90 - after that, we can begin fortnightly sessions lasting 90 minutes, and costing £125. During the first session we will talk about what you want from couples therapy, and I will teach you some basic dialoguing skills. I don't meet with couples individually. I use an intake form to gather some information about your needs and intentions before the first session.
