About me and my therapy practice
Supervision is the ethical practice for counsellors and therapists to regularly have to ensure their work is being done in a safe way.
Supervision offers the space to discuss caseloads and what is coming up for you as a therapist. It offers a space for self-reflection and identify any areas which might require attention or additional training. Discussing your Self-care is part of supervision and looking at how you look after your own needs. Remember - 'you can't pour from an empty cup'.
I offer supervision both monthly (one and half hours) or fortnightly (one hour) to qualified and student counsellors / therapists. This is in line with the client / supervision ratio as stipulated by BACP guidelines. As well as the framework set out my education establishments for student counsellors/therapists.
As a qualified Supervisor, the service of Supervision is offered to both qualified, and student counsellors / therapists. The agenda of supervision is within the 'The Functional Model’ (Inskipp and Proctor) -
"A working alliance between supervisor and a counsellor in which the counsellor can offer and account a recording of her work; reflect on it; receive feedback, and where appropriate, guidance. The object of this alliance is to enable the counsellor to gain in ethical competence, confidence and creativity so as to give her best service to her clients,"
Practice description
I offer a free 30 min consultation for potentially new supervisees, to give an opportunity to talk about my approach (Functional model), discuss any questions you may have in regards to my supervisory approach and how that translates into supporting you. It also gives an opportunity to discuss my experience and specialisms to check if it fits with your needs and how you would like to be supported in your own practice (whether qualified or a student on placement). It also offers the space to talk about how we contract together and an other administrative needs.

Prior to our first supervisory session the supervisee will have had their free 30 min introductory session. Also an email with any paperwork including the supervisory contract. About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified person-centred accredited counsellor & I work with clients (male and female) from the age of 18 years upwards. Counselling is about being listened to, heard and being able to talk about the issues which are impacting you and your life. You may be feeling down, low mood, or anxious. Person-centred counselling works with the approach that you are the expert in your own lived experience, therefore not telling you what to do, but using measured interventions around CBT and mindfulness to intervene and challenge what is being heard and also to support you to explore the issue/s you are experiencing (for example anxiety). I am able to support your need to explore the issues you are experiencing. With measured interventions to allow you to focus and look at how you feel and react to your challenges as well as mental health.
Counselling is hard work and sometimes you can feel worse before you begin to feel better.
You may have experienced a bereavement, a job loss, a relationship breakdown which is impacting on your mood and mental health. You may be experiencing a combination of things and trying to cope with it but feeling overwhelmed, depressed, stressed. This might be impacting your ability to express yourself, be in a relationship, or feeling unable to function within social situations. You might be questioning your relationship with alcohol or other recreational drugs. Other issues may be around childhood trauma, domestic abuse, bullying, sexual abuse, childhood sexual abuse, addiction, self-harm, intrusive thoughts.
Practice description
I offer my work remotely, online and initially i offer a free 30 min session, so to give an opportunity to have a chat to ask questions, get an idea about what i offer, check availability, and get a sense of if we both feel able to work with each other and adhere to a therapeutic contract; what my limitations are and what commitment is expected from you, the client, (communication of non-attendance, cancelling in advance etc). I have professional indemnity insurance, and I have regular supervision to support my ethical and professional framework of working and ensure I am working within the constraints of my approach and commitment to my clients.
My first session
Prior to our first session, i will correspond by email and sending you the therapeutic contract, which outlines details as guidance, including payment, and what happens in the event of any issues, etc. This contract (which will have you input your details) will be returned by email prior to beginning any sessions, along with any further questions you may have.
