About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I’m Sarah Edge, and I run Edge Therapy from Thrive Wellbeing Hub in Sale.
I provide counselling, psychotherapy, and supervision, with a focus on pre- and postnatal mental health and related issues. I work online, by phone, and face to face.
I offer person-centred, non-directive talking therapy, with a strong emphasis on the therapeutic relationship.
I centre my way of working around six main principles:
• Non-judgement
• Acknowledging grief and trauma & normalising responses to grief and trauma
• Psychoeducation
• Compassion
• Fostering self-awareness and authenticity
• Respect for autonomy
I specialise in supporting women through perinatal mental health challenges, including anxiety and depression compounded by hormonal changes, difficulties conceiving, pregnancy, birth, baby loss, infant feeding, and the postnatal period. I am passionate about supporting women during some of the most vulnerable and life-changing times in their lives. I also recognise that making, carrying, birthing, and raising babies can involve loss, physical and emotional trauma, and believe women deserve time and support to recover.
I hold undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications in Psychology and Counselling & Psychotherapy, as well as a Master’s degree in Advanced Counselling & Psychotherapy (Supervision). I have further training as a supervisor and trainer, whilst working for two large UK charities including the NSPCC and Place2Be.
I am best suited to supervising practitioners working with women, mothers, life transitions, and related fields. I welcome enquiries from trainee and student counsellors on placement, as well as those providing professional supervision in peer support roles for charities or community projects.
Practice description
I take a person-centred approach to clinical supervision and believe that good supervision, like good therapy, does not need to be overly complicated. I aim to provide a supportive, respectful, and collaborative environment where you feel safe to explore your clinical practice, supporting your growth and development as a therapist.
I approach supervision through three key areas: the needs of your clients and client work; how this relates to your own experience and needs as both a person and practitioner; and your professional growth and development, alongside my role in supporting this process.
I believe the supervisory relationship should be grounded in mutual respect, professionalism, and shared experience, and guided by your individual professional and supervisory goals. Supervision should feel both empowering and enjoyable, with the safety of the supervisory relationship allowing you to explore your practice openly and honestly.
*I also receive a number of enquiries regarding professional consultation, particularly around the development of private practice and working within perinatal mental health. These consultations are available as one-off sessions or on a regular or semi-regular basis, where there is already an existing supervisor in place or prior to undertaking client work.
I work online, by phone, and face to face in Sale, South Manchester.

About me and my therapy practice
My name is Sarah Edge and I specialise in providing person-centred counselling psychotherapy for pregnant and postnatal women and people, including mothers and birthing parents of older children. I offer sessions online, by phone, and face to face from Thrive Wellbeing Hub in Sale, Manchester.
Having a baby is perhaps one of the biggest psychological, physical and emotional adjustments you may ever experience. It is not unusual to notice an increase in anxiety or a decrease in mood during this time. You may have experienced difficulties conceiving, challenges during pregnancy, miscarriage and/or baby loss, birth trauma, or difficulties following birth; perhaps with feeding, pelvic health, sleep, or adjusting to life with a new baby. These experiences often occur alongside the demands of everyday life, and sometimes alongside other grief, stress or past trauma, all of which can impact mood and mental health in motherhood.
I am a qualified, experienced and accredited therapist, and also a mother of two young children. My own experience of postnatal mental ill health inspired me to develop this specialist perinatal service.
Practice description
I provide person-centred counselling and psychotherapy (talking therapy), specialising in pre- and postnatal mental health and related issues. I usually work with mothers up to five years postpartum, but if your children are older and you would still like space to reflect on your experience of motherhood, please feel free to get in touch.
I believe that making, carrying, birthing and raising babies can involve loss, physical and emotional trauma, and a significant period of adjustment. All women deserve time and support to recover both physically and emotionally.
I aim to offer therapy that is accessible, affordable and flexible. You are welcome to bring your baby if childcare is a barrier to accessing therapy. I also offer sessions by phone if leaving the house feels difficult, and you can book either ad hoc or regular sessions depending on your needs, budget, childcare and availability.
I offer a mix of morning, afternoon and evening appointments Monday to Thursday. Sessions are 50 minutes and priced at £79.
I hold undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Psychology, as well as undergraduate and postgraduate diplomas in Counselling and Psychotherapy, and a Master’s degree in Advanced Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am accredited by the BACP and have extensive experience supporting pregnant and new mothers. I also maintain professional relationships with a number of recognised charities & organisations supporting parents and run the growing social media page @maternalmentalhealthwellbeing.
