About me and my therapy practice
Thank you for finding me. I am Susie, a BACP-registered counsellor (eligible for BACP Senior Accreditation, application in progress) and BACP Trainee Supervisor, based in Ripon, North Yorkshire, currently completing a Diploma in Clinical Supervision (aligned with the BACP Competence Framework for Supv) at The Awareness Centre, London.
I qualified with a Masters in Counselling (Monash University, High Distinction) and have practised as a counsellor since 2008, working person-centred integratively, holding person-centred values as my theoretical core, while drawing on other approaches such as CBT, Trauma-Focused CBT and IPT in ways that stay consistent with those values. I have particular expertise in grief and loss, trauma, cancer and life-limiting illness, burnout, depression and return-to-work planning, and infertility/IVF. I am Level 4 PTSD trained, and a Qualified Psychometric Practitioner, comfortable using a wide range of psychometrics and outcome measures including PHQ-9, GAD-7, CORE-OM, IES-R, ACE, PCL-5, ITQ, AUDIT, FAST and SADQ, as well as MBTI, FIRO-B and DiSC, both in my own practice and in supporting supervisees to use these confidently and appropriately in theirs.
I facilitate cancer support groups for Breast Cancer Now and bring 20+ years of prior experience in HR consulting, coaching and human capital work, including as an EAP referral Associate Counsellor across several industries.
I have had the pleasure of working with clients from all walks of life and occupations, ages 14–89, across a wide range of cultures, including military and armed forces personnel, refugees and asylum seekers, and blue light/emergency medical personnel. I warmly welcome clients and supervisees from the LGBTQIA+ community. Having worked across 30 countries, I bring a genuine cultural awareness and sensitivity to my practice and supervision alike. I am trauma-informed in all of my work.
Practice description
I currently have limited supervision spaces available to start in August 2026, welcoming trainees, newly qualified counsellors, and anyone interested in supervision informed by a broad, integrative clinical and professional background.
Sessions are available online (anywhere) or in person in Ripon, North Yorkshire. If meeting face-to-face, you are welcome to bring a pet along; many clients do, and I am a fellow animal lover myself. The same goes for online sessions via Teams or Zoom.
My approach is warm, collaborative and supportive, with a focus on your development, growth and personal preferences as a practitioner, alongside well-established models such as the Seven-Eyed Model and the Cyclical Model. Humour, laughter and tears often help.
I am fully grounded in the BACP Ethical and Competency Framework and hold professional insurance with the PPS (Psychologists Protection Society) as both a Counsellor and Supervisor. I warmly welcome enquiries from trainees or practitioners aligned to a different professional body, such as the NCPS or UKCP, where it feels like a good match.
Please contact me for an initial discussion, and I will email you a copy of my Contract for Supervision, which we can discuss together to see if I would be a good fit for you.
My first session
My first session is structured around two simple steps:
1. An introductory call. I offer a brief, informal conversation by phone or video call before any commitment, so we can see if it feels like a good fit on both sides, this is offered at no charge.
2. Emailing my Supervision Contract. Following the call, I will email you a copy of my Contract for Supervision, which we can then discuss together in your first full session, covering how we will work, frequency, format (online or in person), and preferred models, as well as your current practice, development goals, and any specific areas you would like supervision to focus on.
Your first full supervision session is charged at my standard rate of £40.00 per hour, with payment made online to confirm the session.
I find this collaborative start, grounded in the Contract for Supervision, works as it lets the working relationship begin naturally while still giving us both the space to be clear about expectations, boundaries and your preferences for ways of working before we settle into a regular rhythm together. I look forward to hearing from you. Kind regards, Susie

About me and my therapy practice
Thank you for finding me. I am Susie, and my approach is warm, supportive and unhurried. I am primarily a person-centred therapist, but work integratively, alongside many other useful tools and approaches such as CBT, trauma-informed approaches, and IPT, always in ways that stay consistent with person-centred values, the therapeutic relationship, Rogers’s core conditions of empathy, congruence and unconditional positive regard, and respect for each client’s own frame of reference.
Everyone is unique, and this, in my view, requires a tailored approach based on your needs, whether that’s assessments, CBT, or other tools drawn on alongside the person-centred or 'client centred' core. Sessions can be short or long term, depending on your needs, and I aim to provide a safe space for you to explore whatever you’re facing.
I offer full 60-minute sessions, rather than the more common 50, so there’s proper time to work without feeling rushed, which matters especially for grief, trauma and complex, layered material.
I work with individuals, couples and families, and offer sessions face-to-face in Ripon, North Yorkshire, online via Teams or Zoom, or by telephone, whichever suits you best. If meeting face-to-face, you’re welcome to bring a pet along, many clients do, and I’m a fellow animal lover myself.
I have had the pleasure of working with clients from all walks of life and occupations, ages 14–89, across a wide range of cultures, and I am LGBTQ+ friendly, warmly welcoming clients from the this community and others.
I also offer sessions for young people (14+) and university students, including those from over 20 different universities, home and international, navigating the particular life transitions that come with student life.
I hold professional insurance with the PPS (Psychologists Protection Society) as a Counsellor. I am also experienced supporting adults adjusting to a neurodivergent diagnosis, post-assessment.
Practice description
Getting started is simple. I offer a free 15-minute initial phone call, so we can talk through what’s bringing you to sessions and see if it feels like a good fit before you commit to a first paid session.
For couples and families, the first session includes a detailed intake questionnaire, completed individually beforehand, which I review before we meet, helping guide our work together from the start.
Sessions run a full 60 minutes (rather than the more common 50). I offer face-to-face sessions in Ripon, online via Teams or Zoom, or by telephone, whichever suits you best. Home visits can also be arranged locally.
Payment is made online in advance to confirm each session, though cash or cheques are also accepted if preferred.
If meeting face-to-face, you’re welcome to bring a pet along, many clients do, and I’m a fellow animal lover myself. They have a habit of climbing onto laps for online sessions.
My first session
Please use the form on the BACP website OR contact me via email/SMS or via my website: www.silverliningscounselling.co.uk.
I will send you a copy of my client consent and confidentiality form, either for individuals or couples, and this explains what you can expect in a first session, and any subsequent sessions.
Every client is unique and approaches are tailored to meet their specific needs. It’s really important to find someone to talk to and work with that feels right for you.
Diversity is a wonderful thing.
I love animals, and pets are welcome, many people bring their dogs.
I offer a 15 minute introductory phone call (no charge) if you feel ready to reach out, and this will provide the opportunity for you to ask any questions and deal with any concerns, before booking your first session.
