About me and my therapy practice

I aim to help you see your strengths as a psychotherapist or counsellor and offer a place to explore your work so you can become the therapist you want to be, offering your clients the best possible experience. I aim to hold, support and empower you as a practitioner. I see supervision as a place for learning, support and development. I aim to provide a place for psychological security, creating a shame-reducing environment where you can bring mistakes or questions, as these are often the things we need to discuss the most, yet hold back for fear of embarrassment or dismissal.

Supervisory Frame for Our Work:

• Importance of Psychological Security. The humanistic strand to my philosophy as a practitioner aims to provide the base for securely grounded supervisory relationships. When people feel valued, seen, heard, and met, then shame is minimised, and vulnerability, reflexivity and paradoxical thinking can thrive.

• Supervision is a bespoke learning space that provides a place to reflect on work with someone who has more experience, different experience and who can hold and contain, stand in potency, create the conditions for learning and growth, and be willing to learn alongside.

• ‘The supervisor’s role is not to reassure the supervisee, but to allow the emotional disturbance to be felt within the safer setting of the supervisory relationship, where it can be survived, reflected upon and learned from.’ (Hawkins and Shohet, 2000)

• Ethical principles of EATA and the six Universal Ethical Principles of Beneficence, Autonomy, Non-Maleficence, Fidelity, Universality and Justice, hold us in all we do.

Practice description

I work face-to-face from my welcoming therapy room in Menston or online on Zoom.

My approach is co-creative, focusing on a relationship where we can explore your own process, self-development and growth.

I work through a Transactional Analysis lens, but my first training and my supervision training were both integrative and can work using your modality as the frame.

I am both UKCP and BACP Accredited. I have an MA in Psychotherapy, a postgraduate diploma in Transactional Analysis, I am an EMDR practitioner and am trained in and have extensive experience of trauma-focused psychotherapy.

About me and my therapy practice

Life is rarely straightforward. Are you struggling? Seeking help can be daunting, but you do not have to cope alone.

I can offer you a confidential place where you will be accepted as you are, to explore the issues you are facing and find a way forward. Drawing from my experience we can find out what works best for you.

I have experience in working with people with a whole range of issues such as anxiety, low mood, worry, depression, confidence and self-esteem issues, bullying, panic, grief, loss, (including loss through a health diagnosis) trauma, parenting issues, marital issues, isolation and self-sabotage.

I am warm, calm and compassionate. Clients have told me I am easy to trust and feel comfortable sharing things they have never told people before.

My training and experience have taught me that relationships are significant. This includes challenges you may be facing in your relationships as a parent, child, partner, friend, at work or at home, but also the way you and I may work together.

I work one-to-one with adults aged 18 and over, offering short and long-term therapy from my therapy room in Menston, near Otley, Guiseley and Ilkley. A comfortable, calm setting where you will receive a warm welcome. I am a 5 minute walk from Menston train station and the bus stop and have ample off street parking. I also work online on Zoom.

I am a fully qualified, experienced psychotherapist/counsellor and am an accredited member of both the UKCP and the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP, accred).

I am fully committed to being the best I can and am guided by the BACP ethical framework which underpins all my work with the client’s wellbeing being at the centre. I also receive regular clinical supervision.

If you would like to book a free 20-minute introductory chat face-to-face, online on Zoom, or on the telephone, please email me. We can discuss any questions, fears or concerns you may have.
