About me and my therapy practice

I work as a qualified supervisor in clinical and non clinical supervision.

I hold a masters degree in psychotherapy & counselling from Goldsmiths, University of London, & a postgraduate diploma in integrative supervision of individuals & groups from the Iron Mill College in Exeter.

I work in a range of capacities including my own private practice, as a well-being mentor in Universities & have extensive experience of working at a low-cost mental health charity. I also worked as an IDVA in a high intensity crisis intervention team for a nationwide domestic abuse charity.

My approach is psychodynamic & integrative; I draw on a variety of modalities including person centred, attachment-focused, systemic and relational. I also have an interest in working somatically, encouraging supervisees to notice physical sensations manifesting in the body when discussing a client, & how bringing this into awareness can help highlight and process complex emotions and feelings relating to the client work.

I am committed to cultivating a holistic holding environment where supervisee self care is developed as a way to protect against burnout.

I provide a supportive clinical experience that builds on the training, skills & personal and professional experience of the supervisee.

I bring a supervisory focus exploring the countertransference between client & psychotherapist and bringing unconscious material into the consciousness via creative interventions.

I feel I could be particularly helpful to:

- Trainees

- Integrative or humanistic therapists who are interested in psychodynamic ideas but uncertain about how to use these concepts practically in their work

- Those setting up private practice for the first time who want support around this transition

- More experienced practitioners who feel stuck & looking for a fresh perspective

Practice description

As a supervisor I use a process oriented, integrative model with an emphasis on the psychodynamic, relational and attachment focused approach. I work with transference and countertransference with supervisees as a way to gain insight into possible parallel processes to client work. I like to work creatively with my supervisees as a way to access unconscious processes and address stuckness in client work. I have been trained to utilise sand tray and metaphor, and I am curious about working with noticing sensations in the body, and how this increased awareness can illuminate processes within the client work.

I perceive the supervisory space to be an opportunity for collaboration, creativity and containment. A space to share ideas, hopes, concerns, safeguarding issues or stuckness within your practice. To think together about how supervisees can be empowered to notice and embrace the multiplicity of the options available. Although the client will always be at the centre of the work, I am also passionate about focusing on the personal development of my supervisees, encouraging a space to cultivate a sense of well-being and self care as practitioners, as an additional way to promote working as ethically as possible. In my experience giving space to our own process and development allows for us as practitioners to emulate these conditions for growth to our clients.

The model of supervision I will be using most frequently is the The Seven-Eyed model.

I have particular interest/competency in supervising work with the following demographics/topics:

- Working with relational trauma

- Working with neurodiversity

- Working with survivors of domestic abuse and coercive control

- Working with codependency and enmeshment

- LGBTQ clients

- Perinatal issues

- Working with unconscious processes such as countertransference, projection and parallel process

- Supporting artists and musicians around their creative processes and creative blocks and resistance

My first session

We will begin with a free 15 minute telephone/Google Meet consultation to see if working together might be a good fit. We will agree on the cost of the sessions going forward and discuss the frequency of sessions required.

We will then book in our initial supervision session which will last either 50 minutes or 1.5 hours depending on your membership body requirements.

In the first session we can explore what your hopes, expectations and requirements for supervision are, explore any past experiences of supervision (what resonated and what didn't), and what you consider to be your current strengths and learning edges going forward.

We will agree on the frequency, timing and price for the supervision sessions and explore any questions in relation to the supervisory contract.

After a check in with you, I will then invite you to share your work with a particular client, theme or concern to the supervisory space and I will ask you what you would like to focus on, your hopes for the session and ideally what you would like to take from our work on that particular day.

Going forward we will initially review the supervisory arrangements after three months to review and evaluate how the supervision is meeting the needs of the psychotherapist and their clients.
