About me and my therapy practice

I offer reflective, collaborative supervision for qualified counsellors and counsellors in training. My aim is to provide a supportive and appropriately challenging space where you can think openly about your client work, professional development and use of self.

My approach is humanistic, relational and developmental. I draw on Proctor’s formative, normative and restorative functions, the Integrated Developmental Model and the Seven-Eyed Model, adapting our work to your experience, needs and stage of development.

Ethical practice and client welfare are central to my work. Supervision may include exploring therapeutic relationships, safeguarding and risk, professional boundaries, theory, interventions and the emotional impact of the work. I will encourage you to develop confidence in your own clinical judgement while remaining open to reflection and challenge.

I work from an anti-oppressive and culturally responsive perspective. I welcome conversations about identity, culture, difference, intersectionality and power, including how these may be present within the therapeutic and supervisory relationships. I aim to create a space where difficult or uncomfortable material can be approached with curiosity, compassion and honesty.

I work with counsellors from diverse backgrounds, including those working in private practice, agencies and placements. Supervision is offered online via Zoom.

I have completed a Level 6 Diploma in Clinical Supervision with Headstrong Academy.

Practice description

Supervision is offered online via Zoom, usually for 90 minutes each month, although the frequency can be agreed according to your caseload, professional requirements and individual needs.

Our work may include case discussion, therapeutic process, ethical dilemmas, safeguarding and risk, professional boundaries, theoretical understanding and the emotional impact of the work. There will also be space to recognise your strengths, attend to your wellbeing and explore areas in which you would like to develop.

I believe that a trusting supervisory relationship should allow openness, uncertainty and respectful challenge. I will not expect you to have all the answers. Instead, we will think together, remain curious and consider different perspectives, while keeping your clients’ welfare at the centre of our work.

I encourage supervisees to bring all aspects of themselves to supervision. We can explore how identity, culture, difference, power and lived experience may influence the therapeutic relationship, the supervisory relationship and the wider contexts in which we work.

For counsellors in training, we will consider the requirements of your course and placement alongside your individual learning and developmental needs. Our work will be reviewed regularly to ensure that supervision continues to support you and your practice.

My first session

I offer a free 30-minute telephone consultation before arranging our first supervision session. This gives us an opportunity to discuss what you are looking for, your current work and experience, and whether my approach is likely to meet your needs.

During our first supervision session, we will explore your practice, caseload, professional responsibilities and any course or placement requirements. We will also discuss confidentiality and its limits, safeguarding, record-keeping, communication between sessions and how we will work together.

I will invite you to consider what you need from supervision and what helps you feel both supported and able to engage with constructive challenge. This is also an opportunity for you to ask questions and decide whether you feel comfortable working with me.

If we agree to continue, we will complete a supervision agreement and arrange the frequency and length of our sessions. We will review our work regularly to ensure that supervision continues to meet your needs and supports safe, ethical practice.

About me and my therapy practice

Choosing a therapist can be confusing and probably a little overwhelming but it is important to choose the right therapist to help you to open up about your thoughts and feelings. I work collaboratively with my clients by providing a safe and confidential space for us to explore. I see you as an individual and acknowledge that each one of us has had unique life experiences.

As a Humanistic counsellor, I believe that you have the tools within yourself to make the changes you want and find the answers you are searching for. Your reasons for seeking professional support can be as diverse and unique as we each are.

In therapy, I offer you the space to develop a growing self-awareness to make sense of your past which can impact your present to make a more hopeful future.

In working with individuals or couples my approach is to focus on assisting you to find what is happening that is impacting the relationship. All relationships can face challenges, so I offer my clients the space to work together through these challenges to see problems in a new light.

Are you an individual trying to find your way to a better way of living?

Are you a couple that is moving in together or getting married and have fears and worries about this commitment or a couple experiencing conflict or trust issues, or perhaps concerns with family and parenting?

Therapy can be the space for you to work through things if communication has broken down, trust has been lost, or intimacy has become problematic, couples counselling can provide the space needed to get back to talking to each other again with empathy and care.

Practice description

In our sessions, it will be up to you to decide what you want to work on. This is the best way to find your solutions. I offer a space for individuals and couples to explore and reflect on patterns of behaviour which may be leaving them feeling stuck, frustrated, disappointed or unhappy.

I encourage clients to develop and sustain the ability to think about themselves and their relationships and to open up opportunities for communication.

I will help you notice patterns, and discover what you feel so that when you find the answers for yourself they will have more meaning. I will do this by offering respect, empathy and a safe non-judgmental space.

I abide by the BACP's ethical guidelines. My practice is fully covered by professional insurance and supervised by an experienced BACP supervisor.
