About me and my therapy practice

Looking for a supervisor for your therapy or other supportive professional practice?

I offer clinical supervision, whether to meet your professional membership requirements, or to complement your current supervision arrangements.

I also offer supervision for trainee counsellors working towards qualification.

My approach:

My supervisory style is based on the Person-Centred modality. I offer a warm and empathic space to bring difficult clinical material; a gentle yet challenging exploration of therapeutic process and relationships; and a safe, non-judgemental approach to support you with the personal impact of your work. Above all, I believe in building a strong, transparent, and supportive supervisory relationship which promotes both professional growth and self-care.

I am trained in the Seven-Eyed Model of supervision, so-called because it explores the therapeutic or supportive relationship from multiple perspectives: enabling you to gain a holistic view of your work and any issues that you encounter. The Seven-Eyed approach involves not only exploring the process between therapist/professional and client, but also using the supervisory relationship as a tool to deepen understanding. This model is suitable for practitioners from varied professional backgrounds and training. It also provides a framework for exploring difference and diversity within clinical and supervisory relationships. As a supervisor, I welcome the exploration of difference as a challenging yet key area for potential growth.

Practice description

What is supervision?

Clinical supervision is an essential part of any therapeutic or supportive practice. It offers a space for therapists and other helping professionals to reflect upon their work, to develop their skills and understanding, to gain perspective and feedback, and to be supported and validated as they face and overcome professional and personal challenges.

Supervision not only promotes the best interests of clients by ensuring safe and ethical practice, but also empowers the supervisee to grow, develop and deepen their practice.

Effective supervision not only equips us with the tools and resources for our work, but also builds our self-awareness and skills for life!

About me:

About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I’m Lucy (she/her), a Person-Centred Counsellor living and working in Greater Manchester. I’ve been practising as a therapist since 2020. Since then, I’ve worked in different settings such as specialist counselling services for Domestic Abuse and Bereavement & Loss. I have specialist training and experience in supporting people with grief and loss, depression, trauma and difficulties in interpersonal relationships. I now work in private practice, where I support people with a range of different issues. I also offer queer, transgender and neurodiverse-affirming therapy.

As a therapist, one of my core values is offering a space free of judgement, especially for people who have experienced stigma and discrimination as a result of their identity. Whoever we are and wherever we come from, counselling is a place where we can experience radical acceptance. In time, this can help us to overcome our inner self-critic and begin to fully accept ourselves.

Whatever you are experiencing right now, you may be wondering if it’s really important enough to seek counselling. The answer is yes! Just having that sense of curiosity about yourself is a valid starting point. If you feel ready to reflect on your experiences and learn more about yourself, then counselling may be right for you.

Practice description

The type of counselling that I offer is called the Person-Centred approach. This type of talking therapy is guided by you, your aims and priorities. You set the agenda and you decide what you would like your sessions to focus on. I will listen to you without judgement, offering a safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings. In this way, I can help you to find your own answers to the difficulties you are facing. This may sound daunting, but as a counsellor my role is to be with you, as a companion, along every step of the way.

Counselling can help with many types of difficulty. Maybe you’re going through a period where you feel especially low or anxious. Or something may have happened to you which is impacting the way you feel about yourself, or your ability to do everyday things. You may be feeling overwhelmed by a particular situation, or stuck in a cycle which you can’t get out of.

When we’re in that place, it’s easy to imagine that things will never change. This is where counselling can help. Counselling gives us a space, away from the demands of everyday life, where we can slow down and really think about what is happening. It offers a chance to reflect on our experiences and begin to make sense of them. In this way, it can bring relief from the pressures that weigh on us. Voicing the difficulty aloud can help us to understand it better, to see it from different angles. Support from a counsellor can also help us to think differently about a situation, enabling us to find a way forward where none seemed possible.

My first session

I offer a free initial phone consultation of up to 30 minutes. This is a chance for us to discuss what brings you to counselling and to consider what you would like to get from it. It’s also an opportunity for you to get a feel for my way of working and to decide whether we would be a good fit.

At the end of the consultation, you may like to go ahead and book a first session. Or you might feel that what I’m offering is not for you. Either one is OK, and I will be happy to help you decide what feels right.

In counselling, I offer regular sessions of 50 minutes. To get the full benefit, weekly attendance is recommended, but I can also offer flexible appointments to fit around your schedule.

Sessions can take place in-person, or remotely via phone or video call. For in-person appointments, I offer access to private, comfortable counselling rooms in either of two purpose-built therapy centres located in Prestwich or Radcliffe (Greater Manchester).
