About me and my therapy practice
I am an experienced counsellor in private practice and offer clinical supervision online, via telephone or in person.
I am a person centred counsellor, but also integrate CBT and creative counselling strategies as required to facilitate engagement and meet the individual needs of each client.
I work with the Hawkins & Shohet 7 eyed model which encourages a wholistic approach to supporting your development as a practitioner through reflecting on your work with your client, seeing your client more deeply and ensuring that the wider context of yours and your client's world are considered. I value the importance or encouraging your reflective practice and developing your internal supervisor, whilst also supporting you to consider self-care. My aim will always be to support you to develop your own style and be the counsellor you want to be, whilst offering a safe place to be fully reflective and collaborative in our work together.
I also work with reference to Proctor's triangle and the Integrative Developmental Model (IDM) to ensure that our work is individual to you and your stage of development.
I have over 25 years experience in the helping professions and have a working knowledge of employment within the public sector, youth services, as well as the counselling sector.
I have a special interest in working with neurodivergence and can support you to develop your practice to be fully inclusive and facilitate engagement to support neurodivergent young people and adults. If you are a neurodivergent counsellor, I can support you to manage your unique challenges with true empathy and understanding.

Practice description
Where are the sessions held?
Online, Phone or In Person.
I offer private counselling from a purpose built office at the rear of my property. I can help with many issues including but not limited to, low mood and anxiety, relationship problems, trauma, abuse and bereavement.
I also have professional and personal experience of neurodivergence, in particular, autism. I can offer creative counselling strategies which can assist in enabling autistic clients and young people to express themselves.
I offer individual face to face, online and telephone counselling to adults and children aged 11 years and over.
I work with my therapy dog, George…
Therapy animals can provide a welcome distraction, focus and comfort. George can be available in sessions if you would like, but this is optional.
NOTE: I have George in the therapy room everyday. If you have an allergy to dogs, it may not be suitable for you to book a face to face session with me.
Experience…
I have significant experience of working with several organisations and charities including…
A charity who accepted referrals from GP’s. My clients experienced a range of difficulties, from anxiety and depression to childhood trauma, relationship difficulties, abuse and stress in parenting.
I have worked for my local branch of Mind, supporting a free bereavement and loss counselling service.
I have also worked for a local autism charity, offering counselling to both autistic individuals and parents of autistic children/adults.
Research…
I have completed research into the social and emotional impact of parenting an autistic child without intellectual or physical disability.
This has further increased my awareness of how lives can be impacted, how counselling can help and how counselling practice can be adapted to be fully inclusive to all.
See my website to access my research and to see more information about my Counselling, Supervision or Parent Consultations. www.stephaniegilbertcounselling.co.uk
My first session
How do I know if you are the right counsellor for me?
I offer a free of charge, no obligation phone call. We can discuss what you need and any concerns you may have. You can then decide if it feels right for you to book your first session.
For young people and autistic individuals, I offer an additional free 15 minute visit to my therapy room to meet me and to see if it feels right for you. Remember, counselling with me is about what you need and you are free to leave counselling with me at any time.
How many sessions will I need?
Everyone is different and some people need or want more sessions than others. I offer both short and long term counselling. We can discuss the number and frequency of sessions during our initial session and this can be reviewed regularly.
