About me and my therapy practice

In supervision my priority is to offer a confidential, supportive, and encouraging space where you can slow things down, think about your client work, and reflect honestly on your practice.

Practice description

My own therapy practice is Integrative, drawing on a range of approaches including Person-Centred, Psychodynamic, Transactional Analysis, Existential, Gestalt, CBT, and ACT. I also use Personal Consultancy, which allows space for coaching-style work to be integrated into therapy where this feels appropriate and helpful.

Before training as a therapist, my professional background was in social care, where I spent many years supervising staff. This gave me a strong grounding in safeguarding, working with risk, and supporting professionals who hold a great deal of responsibility. That experience continues to inform my supervision practice today, particularly when working with complex cases and ethical considerations.

In addition to that experience I have BPS approved Certificate in Advanced Supervision Skills in Clinical Supervision.

My therapy supervision work is largely informed by Proctor’s model, which emphasises learning, support, and accountability as the foundation of supervision. In practice I adapt my approach to suit your experience, your way of working, and what you need most at different points in your professional journey.

Above all, I aim to create a collaborative, reflective relationship that feels safe and meaningful.

Availability

I currently offer sessions online via Zoom.

My availability can change from time to time, so please feel free to get in touch to discuss current openings.

I generally work Monday to Thursday between 8am and 2pm.

About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I’m John.

I work with people experiencing anxiety, addiction, relationship difficulties, life transitions, low self-confidence, and those seeking a deeper understanding of themselves.

My approach is warm, active, and engaged. I’m not the kind of therapist who sits silently throughout the session. Instead, I share my observations, insights, and questions with honesty, compassion, and sometimes gentle challenge.

Many people come to therapy feeling stuck, repeating patterns in relationships, or unsure how to move forward in their lives. My role is to help you explore what may be happening beneath the surface and discover new ways of understanding yourself.

Together, we’ll aim to create a safe and supportive space where you can feel heard and valued while working through the challenges you’re facing and moving toward the life you want.

Practice description

In my practice I usually offer weekly 50-minute online sessions at the same time each week. I find that regular sessions help create continuity and stability in the therapeutic process. Longer or more frequent appointments can also be arranged if needed.

Therapy with me is typically open-ended. We continue working together for as long as it feels helpful and supportive, and you are free to conclude when you feel ready.

I am an Integrative Therapist, meaning I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches. This allows me to adapt how I work to suit your individual needs, something we review and shape collaboratively as our work develops.

I have over 20 years’ experience working in therapy and social care, supporting people with challenges such as trauma, anxiety, addiction, depression, relationship difficulties, and work-related stress. Often these experiences are interconnected, and therapy can help explore how different areas of your life influence one another.

Alongside ongoing therapy, I also offer one-off sessions for those who would like to talk through a specific issue with someone neutral, without committing to longer-term work.

I also offer Therapeutic Coaching through structured 6- or 12-session packages. Coaching is typically more focused and goal-oriented, helping you gain clarity, develop insight, and move forward in particular areas of your personal or professional life.

My first session

I usually encourage a brief exploratory call before arranging a first session. This gives us a chance to talk about what you’re looking for, ask any questions you may have, and see whether working together feels like a good fit.

If we decide to go ahead, the first session is an opportunity for us to begin getting to know each other. You can share as much or as little as feels comfortable, and we’ll start to explore what has brought you to therapy.

The first few sessions are often about building a trusting relationship and gaining a clearer understanding of the difficulties you’re experiencing. From there, we can begin to think together about what you would like to get from therapy and agree on a way forward that feels right for you.

What I can help with

Abuse, Addictions, Anger management, Anxiety, Bereavement, Cancer, Career coaching, Cultural issues, Depression, Development coaching, Disability, Executive coaching, Health related issues, Identity issues, Infertility, Leadership coaching, Life coaching, Loss, Men's issues, Mood disorder, Personal development, Post-traumatic stress, Redundancy, Relationships, Self esteem, Self-harm, Sexual identity, Sexuality, Stress, Substance Dependency, Trauma, Work related issues
