About me and my therapy practice
Collaborative, Integrative Clinical Supervision for Trainees and Qualified Practitioners
About My Supervision Practice
Welcome. As an established therapist and founder of Routes to Wellness, I understand that clinical excellence isn’t built on rigid checklists; it is built on strong relationships, clear thinking, and the permission to be completely authentic.
In private practice, we often speak about clients wearing a "mask" to appear calm and capable while battling hidden pressure. As therapists, we can easily fall into the same trap, feeling the pressure to look fully formed, flawless, and completely unfazed. My supervisory space is designed to be the antidote to that pressure. I offer a warm, confidential, and deeply collaborative environment where you can drop the filter, ask the honest questions, and safely explore your vulnerabilities.
Whether you are a trainee navigating your first clinical placements or an experienced practitioner managing a complex caseload, my goal is to walk alongside you. Together, we will protect your well-being, prevent burnout, and support you in growing into the confident, ethically robust clinician you want to be.
Practice description
As a fully qualified Integrative Counsellor, my therapeutic background draws dynamically from multiple modalities, including person-centred, cognitive-behavioural, psychodynamic, and mindfulness-based practices. This broad foundation informs my supervision style. Rather than forcing you into a single rigid model, I work flexibly to meet you where you are, adapting to your specific clinical needs, your client group, and your theoretical orientation.
Prior to my career in therapy, I worked as an executive leader. This background gives me an acute understanding of organisational stress, system pressures, burnout, and the complexities of human dynamics. I am particularly well-equipped to support supervisees navigating workplace pressure, practice management, professional transitions, and the boundary work required to sustain long-term resilience.
I offer comprehensive clinical oversight that balances the three core pillars of supervision:
Formative (Educational): Developing your integrative skills, deepening self-awareness, and refining your unique therapeutic voice.
Normative (Ethical): Safeguarding your clients, upholding the BACP Ethical Framework, and navigating complex ethical dilemmas with clarity.
Restorative (Supportive): Prioritising your mental health and wellbeing, managing the emotional impact of client work, and combating the isolation of practice.

About me and my therapy practice
On the outside, you seem fine - calm, capable, holding it all together. But inside, it’s a different story. I work with adults who are silently battling with pressure, anger, anxiety, or a sense that something is missing from their lives.
Many people I work with describe a feeling of living behind a mask, smiling, coping, keeping up appearances, while privately battling anxiety, low mood, grief, or a sense of disconnection. If that resonates with you, you're not alone. I can help.
I'm Rob Upton. I specialise in working with adults and young people who are seeking relief from these pressures. Whether you’re going through a life transition, carrying unresolved pain, or simply feeling stuck, I offer a space where you can be yourself – no filters, no expectations.
We'll work together to understand what’s going on beneath the surface, identify patterns that may no longer serve you, and find practical steps to help you move forwards.
Counselling can be a game-changer. Here’s how it helps:
Breaks the worry loop - I can help you spot unhelpful thought patterns and learn how to reframe them.
Builds coping tools - learn techniques that give you more control when anxiety hits.
Boosts confidence - As you build skills and gain insight, you feel more equipped to face challenges instead of avoiding them.
With 16 years of leadership experience supporting large teams, I’ve seen how anxiety and depression impact everyday life. As a therapist, I’ve helped many clients regain control of their thinking and lead more fulfilling lives. I’d love to help you too.
I’m a registered member of the BACP and an Accredited Registrant of the NCPS.
Practice description
I offer face to face therapy in two locations in the south of England.
My therapy room in Dalwood is between Axminster and Honiton. The room has beautiful views into the Blackdown Hills valley and beyond. My therapy room is a true example of the peace and tranquility of Devon, far removed from the hustle and bustle of a busy life. Watch rabbits, sheep, cows, birds, and even a regular pheasant as they visit the grounds.
My first session
My fee is £60 for each 50 minute session.
I offer an initial 15 minute phone consultation free of charge. In this no-obligation discussion, you can share what you would like to get from therapy, ask questions, and get a sense of what it is like talking to me. After this, if you decide I am the right therapist for you, you can book an appointment for your first session. Sessions will be charged at £60.
Please call, text, email, or send a message via WhatsApp to arrange a phone consultation.
