About me and my therapy practice

In my experience, when difficulties occur in the therapeutic relationship, if the therapist attends to what is troubling them and can find some understanding of this, then the impasse or stuckness can be attended to.

As an integrative supervisor with a philosophy of egalitarianism and anti oppression, the issues brought to supervision may not be understood solely through a reflection of clients psychopathology and self.

In my supervision practice I believe that if we are able to approach the endeavour with curiosity and willingness to be changed and impacted by the client, then the client will benefit immeasurably.

Practice description

I like the idea that there are three types of supervisor - the potter, the gardener and the jug. The potter moulds the supervisee after their own image; the jug pours information into the passive recipient and the gardener promotes growth by providing the soil, tending, watering, giving the right amount of light and trusting to the innate process thus providing an opportunity for the whole garden to yield great growth. I hope that I am such a gardener.

About me and my therapy practice

Often people find the same problems happening again and again, even those who have been in therapy before. These patterns are rarely random and I believe that an exploration of their causes can show the way to positive and long-lasting change.

You may not even know what is wrong, just that something doesn't feel right, and that you want to explore this.

Perhaps you have people in your life you can talk to, or you may feel you haven't. My professional training, therapeutic and life experience means I am able to offer you an impartial ear, the ability to examine issues from a fresh angle and a calm, neutral, non-judgemental environment.

Practice description

I am an Integrative Psychotherapist. This means that I am able to tailor therapies to a client's particular needs and to discuss and explore the best approach we can take together.

I can examine a wide range of therapies, rather than work from a fixed approach. I believe that this freedom allows me and my client the greatest opportunities for a successful outcome.

I work openly, and although I will be able to offer a range of therapeutic options, it is important to me that my client has an equal role in the decisions we make and the paths that therapy takes. This supports my belief in a non-oppressive therapeutic environment.

This open approach means that the relationship between me and my client is as important as the therapy itself. As human beings I believe that the relationships in our lives are crucial to our sense of psychological well-being. They can shape us for good and bad.

The theories, strategies and interventions that I integrate all work together to put these beliefs into practice.
