About me and my therapy practice

“Reflection-on-action. Refection-in-action. Reflection-for-action” Michael Carrol

Supervision can take many forms. But I believe it works best as a collaborative and reflective space where the delicate and complex therapeutic landscape can be explored in depth.

Whether you are a therapist in training, or an experienced practitioner, supervision can provide a rich resource in service of your clients. It also supports ongoing reflexive learning and professional growth.

I offer individual or small group sessions in my private practice.  Although working online is an option, where possible, I would always opt for working person-to-person, face-to-face, together in the same room. There is nothing quite like being in the same physical space, where we have better access to the nonverbal communication and felt sense of the work. It also allows us the scope to include some creative ways of exploring what you bring into the space.

I have worked as an accredited therapist and as a supervisor both in the UK and Australia. This international experience continues to broaden and enrich what I offer in the supervisory space. My approach is to work relationally, existentially, reflectively and soulfully with supervisees in support of their work

My supervisory training, based in Sydney at the Centre for Existential Practice, is anchored in and informed by systemic perspectives with reflective practice at its core. Michael Carroll’s Integrative model and Hawkins and Shohet’s Seven-Eyed Models have a particular resonance in the way I work.

Whilst I work mainly with counsellors and therapists, I would be delighted to engage with others who work in the caring professions. If you are interested in finding out more about the supervision I offer, then please call, or email me.

Practice description

I am passionate about supervision as a supportive and transformative space. It has the powerful ability to enrich and enlighten practice through its unique combination of keeping a finger on the pulse of practice whilst being creatively curious in service of the client.

I aim to support supervisees to cultivate:

- Reflection and reflexivity.

- Authentic presence in sessions.

- Faith in the way they work.

- Skills that they trust.

- Deep wisdom for the choreography of the therapeutic dance.

- A practice based on integrity.

- The ability to work within the scope of their practice.

Therapeutic work is complex, and navigation of the terrain can be intricate. As supervisor, I actively draw on my experience and training but do not occupy the role of Magical Other; a mysterious being who has all the answers. I prefer to offer a contained rather than constrained clearing amongst what can feel cluttered, safeguarding a creative space where questions can unfold and the unknowns and unexpected have room to emerge from the shadows into the light.

“The exquisite paradox of supervision that never ceases to engage me is the dance of opposites: the truth is usually the opposite of what I believe. The so call ‘bad’ experience leads to the light, the light to the darkness; the detail leads to the bigger picture; the bigger picture is illuminated by the specific; the breakdown becomes the breakthrough and everything, but everything is relevant and grist to the mill” Joan Wilmot

Should you be interested in us working together then please contact me. We can then arrange a brief telephone conversation to better understand the type of supervision that serves you best. If it feels right, then we would proceed to arranging a preliminary session where we could meet and experience working together. A decision to reflect further on your needs or embark fully into a supervisory relationship would then be possible.

About me and my therapy practice

I am a seasoned and experienced counsellor and psychotherapist working with individuals, couples and groups. I am also a clinical supervisor offering a reflective space for therapists and other healthcare professionals.

A very personal, unique set of circumstances and experiences has brought you to this search. I offer up my training and experience in service of you as my client, to guide you through this process. My expertise is to help expand the questions you are asking to get to the heart of an issue. I know how to work toward creating a safe enough space to explore challenging material and how to have difficult conversations.

You may be looking for support because you notice returning to an ongoing and familiar struggle that undermines how you live your life. You may be coming to terms with particular physical or mental health issues. Or have specific work place difficulties, challenging friendships or family issues. You may want to explore the the landscape of your intimate relationships, either independently, or together with your partner.

Anxiety, depression, grief and loss, poor self esteem, trauma both past and present, shape our sense of belonging and potency in the world. Such conditions interrupt connection and leave us feeling on the periphery of life. It is this sense of intimacy and connection, at depth, in our lives and with our lives that sustains us. I work with clients to better understand what distances them from what they value and to find a healthier way of navigating a path back to them.

If you want to know more about how I work and whether I am the right person to support you through this process then get in touch. We can then arrange for a free telephone consultation of up to 30 minutes to explore the best way forward for you.

Practice description

I work exclusively out of my private practice, Zoetix, with individuals and with couples. I also offer supervision to other therapists in support of their client work.

I am integratively trained, which enables me to utilise a variety of approaches to explore the issues that have brought you to therapy.

An area of particular focus for me is how we come into relationship, be it our perception of self, our interactions with others socially and professionally or the joys and challenges with our intimate partners. How we connect or feel distant from other human beings can impact us deeply. I work openly, reflectively and soulfully to help clients get to what lays at the heart of the matter for them.

Therapy can feel confronting and challenging work at times. But my experience and training is brought in service of supporting you in the best way possible through this process. Once we better understand how you have arrived at this point in your life, a clearer sense of the gap between what is, and how you would like it to be, emerges into the light. Together we can  explore healthier ways of navigating your world in accordance with your values.

As well as working with individuals, I have specific experience, expertise and training in working with couples. I work to help them better understand their struggles and the impact on the relationship as it stands. I aim to create a safe enough space for the difficult conversations, the ones that no one wants to have. The therapeutic environment is one of holding and containment so that the couple can slow down their process and begin to listen to their partner as well as feeling heard themselves.

When couples find it hard to agree to attend therapy together, individuals can still come to explore their personal experience of the relationship and how to navigate the dynamics they encounter.

Contact me if you would like to discuss your needs further

My first session

If you are interested in finding out more about the way I work and in particular the issues you would like to explore, then please contact me. We can then arrange a mutually convenient time to have a telephone conversation. This is a free consultation of up to 30 minutes and allows me to better understand your needs and for you to get a sense of how I work. Should we agree to proceed, we can set up a first appointment that forms part of a fuller assessment process. These are charged at my usual rates as outlined. After this first session, you can take some time to reflect on whether you would like to commit to the work and I can get a better idea of whether I am the right professional to meet your current needs.
