My Professional Approach to Supervision

As a supervisor my approach is warm, collaborative and supportive. I also believe in humour in our work.  I am warm, sincere, caring, and non-judgemental.

My work is informed by the Seven-Eyed Model of Supervision. My aim is that supervisees feel held, supported and gently challenged; that they leave supervision sessions with a renewed energy and motivation. I try to meet supervisees in the same way I meet my clients, where they are at, and work collaboratively to agree what is needed. Supervision is our profession's unique, reflective space in which to collaborate, relate, think, be vulnerable, feel supported, learn and grow.

I help my supervisees with: professional development, ethical and legal compliance, ethical dilemmas, contracting, developing their practices and CPD. Supervision offers a reflective space to explore the therapeutic process, to discuss working practices and feel supported.

I offer trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirmative counselling and psychotherapy for autistic, AuDHD, ADHD, otherwise neurodivergent, and highly sensitive individuals. I also provide consultative supervision for qualified and trainee counsellors. I am a BACP-accredited counsellor and psychotherapist, with extensive experience and an MA focused on therapeutic work with neurodivergent people.

I work eclectically with Person-Centred Theory at the core, placing the client as the expert in their own life and empowering them to find their own solutions. I adapt my approach to each individual, incorporating creative, visual and psychoeducational elements as appropriate.

About me and my therapy practice

ONLINE - Clinical Supervision

I offer a safe, collaborative relationship that enhances your clinical work, protects clients, and supports your professional growth. I am a UK-based counsellor/psychotherapist specialising in neurodiversity and trauma-informed care, I provide supervision that meets you where you are.

My Expertise

Drawing from extensive experience with neurodivergent clients, I integrate modalities like Transactional Analysis, Humanistic, Solution-Focused, Psychodynamic, Gestalt, CBT, and Polyvagal Theory. Using the Seven Eyed Model of Supervision, I create a space to refine your practice with clarity and confidence.

My Approach

My style is relational, non-shaming, and attuned, building psychological safety for doubts, mistakes, or 'messy' material.

Empathy with Challenge: I listen actively, validate strengths, and collaboratively explore blind spots, "Let's think this through together." Our work may focus on self-care, alternative perspectives, and your development as a counsellor.

Practical Expertise: I deliver specific feedback, role-plays, and education, based on your developmental needs.

Equality, Diversity & Inclusion: I address diversity, power dynamics, identity, and intersectionality, reflecting on their impact in your work and ours.

I aim to be flexible and make adjustments for those I work with, where necessary.

Why Work with Me?

Good supervision means bringing material to curious exploration, not judgement. You leave more grounded, with fresh ideas and actionable insights for clients.

Practical Details

Format: Via Zoom - options: 2x 45-min, 1-hour, or 1.5-hour sessions, adjustable to your needs.

Fees: £60-70 per hour (sliding scale for supervisees in training & some concessionary spaces).

Next Steps: Contact me for a free consultation to discuss fit.

Please get in touch to discuss your supervision needs or if you would like any further information. I look forward to hearing from you.

Practice description

I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor, my work is underpinned by the Ethical Framework. I am warm, sincere, & non-judgemental.  I work eclectically, with Person-Centred Theory at the core of my practice. My approach is flexible to each individual, integrating creative, visual, and psychoeducational elements where this is helpful.

My work is informed by the following models for supervision:

Hawkins & Shohet’s Seven-Eyed Model which offers multiple perspectives in supervision. It is holistic and relational in my opinion.

This widely used model looks at supervision through seven “lenses”, helping us explore the work from different angles:

Client – what is happening for the client?

Interventions – what the counsellor is doing

Therapeutic relationship – the client–counsellor dynamic

Counsellor’s internal process – thoughts, feelings, reactions

Supervisory relationship – dynamics between supervisor and supervisee

Supervisor’s internal process

Wider context – organisational, cultural, ethical factors

Strengths: Very comprehensive, supports reflective practice helpful for complex or relational work

Proctor’s Three-Function Model

Focus: Purpose of supervision

Best for: Structure, accountability, trainee supervision

This model describes supervision as having three core functions:

  1. Formative – learning, skill development, reflection
  2. Normative – ethics, standards, safeguarding, accountability
  3. Restorative – emotional support and wellbeing of the practitioner

Strengths: Clear and practical, helps balance support with professional responsibility.

 Stoltenberg & Delworth's Developmental Model

Focus: Practitioner development over time.

Developmental models recognise that supervisees move through stages of competence, from beginner to more autonomous practitioner. Supervision style adapts as confidence, skills, & self-awareness grow.

Strengths: Normalises uncertainty and learning, tailors supervision to experience level, encourages independence over time.

My first session

I offer a free 10/15 minute phone call, or a half price exploratory appointment over Zoom or telephone charged at  £35 daytime and £40 after 5pm to allow space for us to ask any questions we may have and to find out if we will be a good fit.

Please reach out if you would like to book a half price exploratory appointment.

Availability

Welcome to my therapy practice! I am a BACP-accredited counsellor and psychotherapist, with extensive experience and an MA focused on therapeutic work with neurodivergent people.

I currently have some availability Monday - Thursday.

I offer trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirmative counselling and psychotherapy for autistic, AuDHD, ADHD, otherwise neurodivergent, and highly sensitive individuals, as well as neurotypical folks. I also provide consultative clinical supervision for qualified and trainee counsellors using the Seven Eyed Model.

I work eclectically with Person-Centred Theory at the core, placing the client as the expert in their own life and empowering them to find their own solutions. I adapt my approach to each individual, incorporating creative, visual and psychoeducational elements as appropriate. Therapy offers insights and tools to move forward at your own rhythm.

Why Choose Neurodiversity-Affirmative Therapy?

Neurodiversity celebrates neurological variations as normal and valuable, shifting from "fixing" differences to honouring your unique strengths and needs. Sessions are offered in a safe, confidential space tailored to your sensory preferences, communication style, and pace, drawing on my MA research in therapeutic work with neurodivergent people. This approach helps you build self-awareness, reduce masking, and thrive authentically, whether navigating anxiety, relationships, or identity.

My Professional Approach

I believe in creating a safe and confidential space to allow you to explore any issues that you wish to bring to therapy. My approach is warm, sincere, caring, and non-judgemental. I maintain my expertise through a minimum of 30 hours of continuing professional development annually. I adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework, ensuring client-centred care. I am fully insured and I am BACP accredited.

About me and my therapy practice

Neurodiversity-Affirmative Therapy .  I offer a calm, supportive space where you can talk things through at your own pace & begin to find your way forward. We’ll explore what’s been troubling you at a pace that's right for you. I bring both professional understanding & lived experience of neurodiversity. I offer sessions online or by phone.

Neurodiversity-Affirming Approach - I see autism, ADHD, AuDHD and other neurotypes as natural variations of the human experience, not deficits to correct. My focus is on celebrating strengths, passions, and distinctive ways of thinking, rather than promoting masking or conforming to "typical" norms. I support people in discovering their own self-understanding and preferred language for their neurotype, free from imposed labels or assumptions. I prioritise emotional, psychological and physiological safety, moving at a pace that feels safe, manageable and collaborative. I pay attention to the body and nervous system, supporting regulation rather than pushing for disclosure or “deep work” too quickly. I am mindful of power, shame and past experiences in services, actively working to create choice, consent and transparency in the therapeutic relationship.

Adapting to different neurotypes - I tailor the work to meet diverse communication needs: allowing pauses, info-dumping, visual supports, written processing, or stimming in session. I adjust the environment and format where possible (lighting, timing, structure, breaks) to reduce sensory and cognitive load. I collaborate on strategies that work with, not against, someone’s attention, executive function and sensory profile.

I offer humour, a warm, collaborative, down-to-earth presence that normalises neurodiversity. I support people to build self-compassion and boundaries, so they can live in a more authentic way. I offer a half-price exploratory call, giving the opportunity to ask any questions and see whether we are a good fit

Practice description

We all experience times when things aren't going the way we might like. We can find ourselves anywhere from a bit grey and unhappy to extremely dark and depressed, anxious, overwhelmed, stressed and spun out. We can get stuck in negative patterns of thinking which are difficult to break, become worried or anxious about the future, or unable to reconcile past decisions. A neutral space to think and feel can be extremely useful.

Trauma-Informed Psychotherapy

A safe, respectful space where you’re heard at your own pace. Trauma-informed psychotherapy recognises how stressful or overwhelming experiences can affect the mind, body, and relationships. Instead of asking “What’s wrong with you?” I ask: “What happened to you?” and “What do you need now?”

This approach prioritises safety, choice, collaboration, and empowerment. It respects your boundaries, focuses on strengths and resilience, and avoids revisiting overwhelming details unless you choose to share them. You remain in control of what you share and how sessions unfold.

Who can benefit?

Trauma-informed therapy can support people who feel anxious or overwhelmed, struggle with trust or emotional regulation, have hard-to-explain stress responses, or want to better understand their reactions and build healthier coping skills.

Common Reasons Clients Seek Support

You might come to therapy to address challenges like these:

• Building self-awareness, confidence, or assertiveness

• Processing loss, break-ups, redundancy, or past issues

• Managing depression, anxiety, loneliness, or feeling stuck

• Improving relationships, communication, social skills, or family conflicts

• Exploring identity, purpose, sexuality, or work-life stresses

I offer a half price exploratory 50-minute exploratory consultation to determine if we're a good fit to work with each other. These are charged at £35 before 5pm and £40 after 5pm.

My first session

In the first appointment, this gives space for us to ask questions we may have. It will be an opportunity for you to say what brings you to therapy and to discuss your expectations. I will ask about your presenting issues (what brings you to seek therapy) and I will ask about any previous therapy you may have had and how you found the experience. It would be really helpful for me to understand your expectations and what you are hoping to gain from therapy. I can explain about the process and the practicalities of working with me. I am open to questions in the first appointment. I have a website: emmawestoncounselling.com which may give you some information about me, but if there is anything further you would like to know, please feel free to ask in our first appointment.

After our first appointment, if you would like to book some sessions, I tend to book in blocks of 6 and appointments will usually take place on the same day and at the same time each week. I usually do a review at session 4, and if clients continue beyond session 6, I usually do regular reviews. Some people choose to reduce their appointments down to fortnightly or monthly, depending on needs and circumstances.

Counselling sessions are offered online or over the phone, allowing you to access support from the comfort and safety of your own home or another private space. This way of working offers greater flexibility, as there is no need to factor in travel, and sessions can often fit more easily around a lunch break or after work. I tend to have very limited evening availability, the few spaces I have are often booked with a waiting list.

Please get in touch to book a half price exploratory appointment.

Why Choose Neurodiversity-Affirmative Therapy

NEURODIVERSITY AFFIRMATIVE THERAPY- When you feel ready, I offer a calm, supportive space where you can talk things through at your own pace & begin to find your way forward. We’ll explore what’s been troubling you at a pace that feels right for you. I bring both professional understanding & lived experience of neurodiversity.

I offer a half-price exploratory call, giving us the opportunity to ask any questions, see whether we are a good fit, and agree on the most suitable way of working together.
