About me and my therapy practice
I specialise in offering supervision to counsellors and other helping professionals in higher education settings as well as counselling managers in any setting.
As a counsellor I have worked extensively with people who have experienced sexual violence and I have many years experience working in higher education as a counsellor for students, offering short-term interventions.
More recently I was a lecturer in counselling at a university and I currently manage a perinatal counselling service in Edinburgh. I have many years experience in managing counselling services and so have a keen understanding of the challenges of management in general and welcome enquiries from anyone in this position regardless of client case-load.
Practice description
I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor and Supervisor with 15 years experience in practice. The foundation of my approach is relational/person-centred, I trained as an integrative counsellor at Manchester University, completing a research masters degree in 2011.
My I gained my supervision diploma in 2020 which was delivered from a Transactional Analysis perspective. Although I take influence from TA I would not call myself a TA supervisor.
I work in collaboration with you, co-creating a space of mutual trust and safety. I have found this to be important so that when difficulties arise we can explore these together and offer each other challenge with the client's best interest always at the heart of what we do.
My first session
Like any relationship, it can take a few attempts to meet the right supervisor. I offer a free 30 minute introductory session to help us decide if working together will be beneficial. It’s a great chance to find out more about each other and explore what you would like from counselling. This can be online or in-person.

About me and my therapy practice
My name is Alex (she/her) and I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor with 15 years experience in practice. I love the work I do because I have witnessed how life-changing counselling can be. Though it’s not life-changing all the time, or for everyone, sometimes it’s a moment in the week for space and healing that you wouldn't otherwise get. These are the small moments that can make a difference.
Before I became a counsellor I started my career from a neuroscience research background, I loved the theory of neuroscience and continue to find it helpful in my work as a counsellor.
I have worked extensively with people who have experienced sexual violence and I have many years experience working in higher education as a counsellor for students. More recently I have been a lecturer in counselling at a university and I currently manage a perinatal counselling service in Edinburgh.
Practice description
The foundation of my approach is relational, meaning that I genuinely try to understand you, your concerns & what really matters to you, from your perspective. I work in collaboration with you, co-creating a space of mutual trust and safety. I have found this to be important so that when uncomfortable feelings such as shame, anger, fear arise they are welcomed and easier to explore together.
I trained as an ‘integrative’ counsellor and have built on this with a variety of training over the years. In practice this means that I call on a variety of skills and techniques to be able to offer you a flexible approach tailored to you. For example, I have a qualification in coaching which can be helpful for people looking for a more focused approach to change in their personal or professional life.
Whether you are seeking help with a particular difficulty or want to do some deep exploration I will offer you my compassion, skills and experience as a counsellor in a confidential, non-judgemental space.
