About me and my therapy practice

I am an accredited, integrative BACP therapist with 16years experience of client work. I am also a UKCP qualified supervisor. I did a generic diploma in supervision with CICS (Contemporary Institute of Clinical Sexology) because of its sex positive, inclusive approach which aligns with my values.

Who I Work With

My niche is complexity! I have lived experience of neurodivergence, disordered eating, adoption, the social care system and the LGBTQ community.

I am a trauma-focused integrative therapist, combining training from several modalities: Psychodynamic, Person-Centred, IFS, Mindfulness, InCorr Method Safe Embodiment Training and Sensori-Motor Psychotherapy, drawing flexibly on what suits you and the needs of your clients best.

I support therapists who work with clients struggling with anxiety, shame, depression, addiction, bereavement, abuse, those from the LGBTQ and kink communities and those curious about possible neurodivergence and AuDHD.

I am experienced in supporting clients who struggle with dissociative disorders, DID, FND seizures, BPD, and OCD.

I work in relationally, using the seven-eyed model.

Practice description

Are you looking for a trauma-focused supervisor who understands the importance of being real: where it’s safe to express ethical dilemmas, professional concerns, fears, or personal insecurities without feeling criticised or mistrusted? This is the kind of supervisor I strive to be.

Supervision, for me, is about creating safety and trust — going at your pace and maintaining a collaborative relationship. It’s a space for ethical dilemmas and nuance, especially around the dynamics present in the therapeutic relationship. Supervisees who work with me say that they appreciate the humour, flexibility and healthy challenge I bring to the work, allowing them to understand themselves and their clients more deeply.

My Approach

I use the Seven-Eyed Process Model to create a safe and reflective space where we can explore the multi-layered dynamics present in therapy. I am interested in seeing both you and the client as whole people, and understanding how the environments you both find yourselves in, will influence how you both show up. At times the focus will be on the experience of the client and at other times we might be more focussed on your development, but all the time ensuring the client's experience is central to the conversation.

Experience and Training

I qualified as a therapist in the psychodynamic and person centred model in 2012. I did a general diploma of supervision in 2025, with CICS (Contemporary Institute of Clinical Sexology), which is regulated by UKCP. I chose to do my training with CICS because of their sex positive and inclusive approach, which aligns with my values.

I work with individual therapists, and those working with young people (aged 16+).

I particularly enjoy supporting trainee therapists as they navigate the early, often anxiety-provoking stages of their professional journey — helping them grow in confidence and self-trust.

My first session

Before we meet for our first session I will check I meet the criteria to work with your membership body and get familiar with your ethical framework.

During our first session I will take some time to get to know your journey as a therapist and take some time to understand your values, your hopes for your business, your areas of competance and the areas you feel you need development in.

Once we have covered the practical bases, there will be time to do some supervision, so that you get a sense of who I am as a supervisor. I will invite you to share how you have experienced supervision in the past and what you need from supervision going forwards.

I am happy to work with supervisees on a short or long term basis, weekly, fortnightly or monthly depending on your caseload, support and financial needs.

I work in person from my home in Bonnyrigg, just outside of Edinburgh and online. I am insured to work with people outwith the UK (excluding US).

I have some availability just now. If you feel we could be a good fit, feel free to get in touch for an initial conversation.

Availability

I work Mondays to Thursdays during the day. My last appointment is at 5.45pm. I have limited availability for a small number of clients or supervisees just now.

About me and my therapy practice

I am an accredited, relational, trauma-focused, integrative therapist (BACP and supervisor (UKCP) with 16 years experience of client work (BACP). I have over 35 years experience working with people healthcare and educational settings.

I love working with people who are ready to understand themselves a bit more, especially when it feels like shame, early relationships and trauma stop you from living your best life. I love watching clients discover calm for the first time or learn to have the courage to expand into new ways of doing life.

I have lived experience of complex trauma, addiction, adoption, the social care system, neurodivergence and the LGBTQ community. I offer non-judgemental and affirming support for non-traditional relationship structures.

I began my career working with adults with learning difficulties, before going travelling and working in an orphanage in Hong Kong. After this I moved into education and worked with mainstream and learning-disabled young people for twelve years, many of whom came from disadvantaged backgrounds and had first-hand experience of the criminal justice system, substance abuse, neglect and the social care system.

I began my counselling training in 2000, whilst working and raising my family and finally began seeing clients in 2010, initially at Talk Matters, Dunfermline. I set up in private practice in 2012. The models of therapy I have studied over the years include: Psychodynamic (we are a product of our web of relationships), Person-centred (we all have the intrinsic ability to know what is best for ourselves), Internal Family Systems (we are made up of parts of self: Part of me thinks this, another part feels that and sometimes there is internal conflict), Sensori-Motor psychotherapy (a body based approach to trauma therapy. It teaches that our bodies hold our trauma way after the event has finished), InCorr Method (an assessment framework for safe embodiment.

I work with individuals who are 16+, couples and organisations.

Practice description

• Do you struggle to express yourself the way you want to? Maybe you fear you’d get overwhelmed, panic and shut down?

• Do you worry that if you told someone your full story, they’d run for the hills or think you’re a little bit mad?

• Do you want to set boundaries but the thought of saying no leaves you drowning in guilt, feeling selfish for disappointing or abandoning others?

• Maybe you recognise you’re anxious or stuck in certain addictive patterns. Maybe you’re noticing the impact this is having on you and others around you?

I am curious about how your story shows up in your body e.g. Are you easily overwhelmed? Do you get physical symptoms? How are those responses unique to you, when are they most intense, what helps you regulate? We will work at a pace that allows you to stay feeling present and pause whenever necessary.

I have lived a vibrant, non-conforming life, which means I’m rarely shocked and I like to think outside the box. I will be adapting our sessions to your needs, rather than churning out worksheets or using textbook speak. I offer useful challenge where appropriate and I think I also have a good sense of humour!

I have a very gentle therapy cat, Hollie, who loves sitting on clients’ laps. Many people find her very calming. If you are nervous or allergic however, I can, of course, arrange for her to be elsewhere.

I live and work from home in Bonnyrigg, Midlothian. My office is on the first floor. There is parking outside and various buses come close or nearby (including Lothian buses 31, 39, 140, 49). We usually meet for at least 60minutes, either in person in my home in Midlothian or online.

I have clients from the UK and I am insured to work with international clients. I work with individuals and couples, anyone over 16yrs old.

It is important to find a therapist you click with. If you’d like to start a conversation, feel free to send me an enquiry and I’ll do my best to get back to you in the next 48hours (often it’s much sooner).

My first session

I work in person from my home in Bonnyrigg and online. I work with local clients and I am insured to work with international clients (excluding US).

We usually meet for an hour, I take some contact details from you and we exchange a basic contract, which explains how I work. I don't complete formal assessments. I may ask for contact details of any mental health professionals you are currently working with.  Sessions are booked by making an online payment at the time of agreeing a specific time slot, usually in advance.

You are welcome to have one discovery session or stay for many. However, if you don’t feel completely comfortable and understood, I would encourage you to find someone different. If you went to a hairdresser who didn’t cut your hair the way you wanted, you wouldn’t go back. It’s the same with therapy. You are in charge, this is your journey.

If you are particularly anxious and would find it useful to bring someone with you for your first session I am happy to negotiate this.

I have a number of sessions at a concession rate. Please feel free to ask about this.
