Training & Experience: I am a registered Counsellor, trained in Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy (CBT) and as a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist, with 30 years of experience working with adults and adolescents in the NHS (Bristol CAMHS), counselling agencies and other therapeutic settings.

Areas of Practice: I specialise in working with anxiety and other mood related issues. These include Generalised Anxieties that affect the mind, body and general wellbeing and other related conditions such as: Phobias, trauma (PTSD), depression and mood management (anger and emotional outbursts), stress management, panic attacks, self-harm, self-esteem, relationship issues, OCD and addictions (alcohol and drugs), amongst other life challenges. My own life experiences alongside my professional training and work experience supports me to work with the above issues with confidence. 

Children and Young People: I have extensive experience and specialist skills gained by working with adolescents across the City of Bristol. I am effective at using evidenced based therapies, such as CBT and Solution Focused Therapy, and can draw on other therapeutic resources to support the most common presenting problems faced by young people, such as anxiety, Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA), depression and mood management, self-harm, stress management, self-esteem, social anxiety, panic attacks, OCD, drug and alcohol misuse.

I have worked extensively within school mental health, Camhs and other support services, to assist young people, their families and carers. This has included the running of Parenting Programmes, designed to equip and give confidence to parents and carers. 

I am used to adapting my therapeutic approach, so I can help my clients navigate the the interplay between the above issues and the impact of neuro-diversities such as ADHD and Autism.

How I work?

I use Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Solution Focused Hypnotherapy to offer you the opportunity to offer you a therapeutic approach that best suits your needs. I work in a flexible way thinking creatively and reflectively in consideration of your age, gender, sexuality, race and culture, disabilities, religion and spiritual beliefs you identify with.

Approach

I am able to work with you over the short or long term, focusing primarily on present and future-orientated treatment, but with the opportunity to explore your past and how this can programme the conscious and unconscious minds to have a powerful bearing on your life today.

As a clinician, I have extensive experience of completing assessments, formulations and interventions for most mental health presentations, including complex psychological, emotional and behavioural challenges. Working for 20 years in a multi-disciplinary environment within the NHS and other services has afforded me wide experience and perspective of medical, family, individual, group, psychological and behavioural approaches.

I am also a qualified and registered Hypnotherapist and Coach, who is used to supporting people to make effective health and wellbeing changes in their lives. These changes include: Smoking cessation, addiction management, overcoming phobias and anxieties, weight management, personal development and general health improvement strategies.

Hypnosis or relaxation using visualisation is a dynamic and inspiring process that will support more traditional approaches of working leading to powerful positive changes. 

My differing treatment approaches allow me to target these conditions with a range of evidenced based strategies supporting positive outcomes for my clients. I follow the science, but have a holistic mindset that allows for creativity, warmth and empathy.

I am available in Bristol for face to face meetings, but also work  online for clients wishing for an option that meets their specific needs. I offer sessions both weekdays and early evenings. I do, however, have some flexibility to work outside of these times where necessary.

I am available early mornings from 7.30 am for working people and young people needing to attend before school. Also, I have appointment times after school for adolescents who find these times more convenient and early evenings for all clients needing greater flexibility. 

You can meet with me at  an allocated therapy room in central Bristol or at my consultation room in Westbury on Trym, Bristol. (parking available)
