About me and my therapy practice

Hi I'm James  I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor,  EMDR practitioner & Clinical Supervisor.

For over a decade, I have been a full-time professional counsellor supervisor and EMDR therapist in the NHS and Ocean Wellbeing Specialist Counselling and Therapy Services from my clinic in Plymouth, Devon.

As a specialist trauma therapist, I support clients with a huge range of issues ranging from complex needs to single one off issues that may be negatively affecting their quality of life.

I believe therapy is about moving forward and is always guided by the client’s priorities and objectives. My role is to offer a skilled independent, supportive and above all kind perspective to help my client’s achieve their goals and progress to a point where they can manage their issues independently. I don’t believe therapy should continue indefinitely or that many sessions are always required.

I use evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and N.I.C.E. guideline-approved Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprogramming (EMDR) therapy for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

I also have a broad range of experience working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, professionals, individuals, and organisations, including occupational health providers, human resources, medical deaneries, employee assistance providers, and statutory health care providers as a therapist and in a supervisory capacity.
