About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I’m Rachel, a BACP-accredited psychotherapist and trauma-informed practitioner with over 12 years’ experience supporting clients.
As an EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) practitioner and Internal Family Systems therapist, I am particularly passionate about body-orientated approaches that recognise the profound connection between mind and body. My work focuses on understanding and addressing the psychophysiological impact of traumatic experiences, using evidence-based, trauma-focused interventions that support healing and recovery.
These approaches can be deeply restorative, helping you to connect with and understand the parts of yourself that have been wounded by past experiences. Through compassionate enquiry, we can work towards releasing feelings of shame, guilt and self-criticism, while fostering greater self-acceptance and a renewed capacity for joy and fulfilment.
I work with clients on an open-ended basis, allowing therapy to progress at a pace and duration that feels right for each individual. Central to my approach is creating a supportive and empowering environment where clients feel safe to explore their experiences, deepen their self-awareness and develop a greater understanding of themselves.
Drawing on a range of therapeutic approaches, I integrate techniques such as mindfulness-based practices, functional breathwork and body-focused trauma awareness to support emotional regulation, resilience and a stronger sense of self.
My aim is to provide a confidential, compassionate space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and concerns with a qualified professional. I firmly believe that therapy should be tailored to the unique needs of each person, and I encourage open and collaborative dialogue to ensure that our work together reflects your goals and aspirations.
Practice description
My private practice in Dronfield is based within a professional setting, providing a comfortable, confidential and welcoming environment for in-person appointments. The premises are easily accessible by public transport for clients travelling from Sheffield, Chesterfield and the surrounding areas. For those arriving by car, information about nearby parking options will be provided prior to your appointment.
I also offer online therapy sessions via a video call, where appropriate and suited to your needs.
To help you decide whether counselling is right for you, I provide a free 20-minute telephone consultation. This gives us an opportunity to introduce ourselves, discuss your therapeutic needs and answer any questions you may have.
Please note that, due to the layout of the premises, wheelchair access is not currently available. If accessibility is a concern, we can discuss alternative arrangements, including online sessions.
My first session
During our first session, we will review the information you need before beginning therapy and discuss what you can expect from the therapeutic process. This will give you the opportunity to learn more about my approach, the structure and frequency of sessions, fees, and any other practical aspects of working together. We will also have time to explore any questions or concerns you may have about starting therapy.
The initial assessment provides an opportunity for us to explore your current circumstances, relevant background and the reasons bringing you to therapy. We can also discuss your hopes, goals and expectations for the therapeutic process, as well as how therapy may support you.
Equally importantly, this first meeting allows us to begin building a therapeutic relationship, giving you the chance to get a sense of how I work and whether you feel comfortable with me. It also helps me to understand your needs more fully and determine whether I am the right person to support you on your therapeutic journey.
