About me and my therapy practice

I’m Dr Damaris Mwangi, PhD, MA Counselling and Psychotherapy, a Licensed Integrative Psychotherapist based in West London with over 15 years of experience. My integrative training draws on CBT, psychodynamic therapy and experiential approaches, including emotion-focused work, allowing me to tailor therapy to each person's needs.

With a background in social science research and specialist training in Person-Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression (PCE-CfD), I support adults experiencing anxiety and depression, while always considering the wider social, cultural and relational contexts that shape emotional wellbeing. My approach is personalised, research-informed and focused on helping you feel more grounded, resilient and confident as you navigate life's challenges.

I also hold a Diploma in PCE-CfD Supervision. If you are seeking online supervision within this model, you are welcome to get in touch. Supervision fees vary depending on the level and frequency of support required.

The use of the title Dr in this directory listing relates to the member’s doctorate qualification. However, this does not imply a general medical qualification.

Practice description

Many of the people I work with appear capable and composed on the outside while feeling overwhelmed, low, restless, or stuck internally. Whether you're experiencing anxiety, depression, or a combination of both, it can be difficult to slow down, feel settled, or believe you're doing enough. Together, we explore the patterns that may be contributing to these experiences, including overthinking, self-pressure, perfectionism, people-pleasing, numbness, exhaustion, or feeling disconnected from yourself.

My approach is warm, collaborative, and paced with care. I support adults in developing emotional stability, strengthening boundaries, understanding the factors that contribute to anxiety and depression, and building a kinder, more compassionate relationship with themselves.

I offer both online and in-person therapy for adults in West London. Fees for in-person sessions may vary depending on location and room availability.

You're welcome to get in touch to discuss availability or arrange an initial consultation.

My first session

The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and explore what has brought you to therapy. We'll talk about what you're hoping for, what feels difficult at the moment, and what you might need to feel supported. There is no pressure to share more than you feel comfortable with. You set the pace, and we work together step by step.

We'll also discuss practical aspects of therapy, including confidentiality, session structure, and fees, so that you have a clear understanding of how we might work together. Many people find that this initial conversation helps them feel more informed, reassured, and ready to begin the therapeutic process.
