About me and my therapy practice
(She/Her). Are you struggling emotionally and feel you need someone to talk to, in a calm, non-judgemental space away from your busy life? Perhaps you find yourself repeating unhealthy patterns in your relationships or at work. You may be feeling a bit stuck or at a crossroads, or perhaps have longstanding mental health issues you need support with. The fall-out from the pandemic has created heightened levels of anxiety for many people and caused many to question their life choices. If you are struggling with your mental health and need someone to talk to, please get in touch. I am able to offer face-to-face or Zoom sessions.
I use a psychodynamic approach, which is about exploring how you interact with people and how your patterns of behaviour have developed in response to your life experiences and key relationships. You may have a specific aim for the therapy but beyond this, the purpose for me is to try to help you understand yourself better and to like yourself better. Being more aware of aspects of yourself or your behaviour that you don't like will allow you to reflect on how or why this might be the case and can lead to change or acceptance. As well, negative impressions of oneself are often based on the behaviour and responses of the adults around you when you were a child and it can sometimes be helpful to revisit and reframe these. For example, depression can sometimes be about unconscious deep-rooted feelings of anger or frustration that were originally a response to someone else and couldn't be expressed outwardly. Over time, these strong feelings can turn inwards on oneself.
I am an Accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and hold an MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy (with Distinction). My experience is broad, including NHS work in a Specialist Psychotherapy service, Student Counselling at two top London universities, and more recently, setting up and running a counselling service in a Drama School.
