About me and my therapy practice

My passion is supporting people with lived experience of trauma and staff in the helping professions who are affected by work-related trauma.

Sometimes the overwhelming experiences in our own lives or other people's can leave a long term impact on us. Trauma can affect the way we see ourselves, trust others and feel safe in our own bodies.

I provide talking therapy to help make sense of those experiences, to feel more in control of the things that have felt out of your control and help you feel more confident again.

My counselling services help reduce the negative impact of trauma by providing space for reflection and restoration. If it is useful to you, I provide helpful learning about the impact of trauma on your body and mind.

I support both individuals and organisations who are impacted by distressing experiences. This includes personal trauma and secondary trauma (the indirect experience of another’s person’s trauma).

I can help with trauma-related topics such as adoption, abuse and modern slavery, with over 13 experience of working with survivors of abuse and exploitation.

Practice description

In our counselling sessions together, we meet for 1 hour at a time, within a safe, welcoming, confidential space and talk about things that are bothering you.

Counselling can be in person (with indoor and outdoor options available) or remote - via telephone or online (usually on Teams).

Face to face sessions take place in my peaceful and pleasant garden office in Llantwit Major where you will be offered a hot drink and a warm welcome.

Outdoor counselling sessions take place along the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, centred around Llantwit Major beach. I love being outdoors: as well as the health benefits, some people find ‘walk and talk’ therapy less intense and more freeing than traditional indoor therapy.

You can decide how many sessions you would like, and how frequently you'd like them. Some people benefit from weekly sessions, whereas others prefer to space them out longer.

Reduced rate for charities and student counsellors are available - please get in touch for more information.

My first session

I believe that a trusting connection is key to therapeutic success, so it is important you get an opportunity to explore whether it feels right for you.

I offer a free 20 minute telephone or video consultation where we can discuss your concerns and explore the possibility of working together.

There is absolutely no obligation to continue if it doesn’t. I want what is best for you. If that’s working with me then great. If it’s not working with me, then that’s great too.

If you decide to continue with me, I will send you a form to fill in a few details about yourself, and some further information about the counselling sessions.

I know that starting counselling can feel like a big step, so I am always happy to answer any questions or concerns you might have.

I am a registered member of the BACP and hold full qualifications in Integrative Counselling and Counselling Supervision. I also hold my own insurance and am DBS checked.

About me and my therapy practice

Hi my name is Cate. My passion is supporting survivors of trauma and staff in the helping professions who are affected by work-related trauma.

I am a qualified counselling supervisor, providing 1-1 supervision for both trainee and qualified counsellors as well as staff within organisations that work with traumatised people.

I know from my own counselling practice how valuable it can be to have a supervisor who cheerleads, challenges and celebrates my counselling career with me. This is the space I provide for you too.

My supervision practice provides space for counsellors and other professionals who work with trauma and want to provide the best standard of practice for their clients while also looking after their own wellbeing.

Secondary trauma and burn out are high risk factors within trauma work and I love providing supervision that incorporates both preventative and reactive strategies for these issues.

My supervision sessions help reduce the negative impact of vicarious trauma by providing space for honest reflection, ethical accountability, helpful learning and encouragement for you in the important work you are providing.

Practice description

I am a integrative supervisor, drawing on lots of different counselling perspectives to create a supervision space that works best for you and your practice. I use Hawkins and Shohet's 7-eyed model as a foundation for our work together.

Supervision sessions can take place face to face, or remotely via Teams. For in person sessions, I offer the options of outdoor and indoor supervision.

Outdoor supervision sessions can be particularly useful for professionals already working therapeutically outdoors or those who want to bring more creativity and diversity into their practice.

My outdoor sessions take place along the inspiring Glamorgan Heritage Coast, centered around Llantwit Major beach in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Indoor sessions take place in my cosy home garden office, sheltered among apple and plum trees, where you will be offered a hot drink and a warm welcome as we explore and celebrate your work.

I am fully insured, DBS checked and am a registered member with the BACP, and provide all my services within their framework and code of conduct.
