I have space for new clients & look forward to working with you in person &  face-to-face within the Calderdale area of West Yorkshire, or online/via telephone throughout the UK.

My hours are flexible, but I prefer to offer sessions Monday  - Thursday.  Evening appointments are available on request up to 7pm.

About me and my therapy practice

Empowering adults & young people to recover from past trauma & move on to lead emotionally fulfilled & rewarding lives!

As an experienced BACP Accredited Counsellor, I offer in person face-to-face sessions within Calderdale, West Yorkshire & online/telephone sessions throughout the UK .

My approach is integrative meaning I draw upon several different theories. It is fundamentally Person Centred (led by you) but underpinned by an understanding of Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) & Psychodynamic theories which I introduce  where relevant & with your permission.

I am BUPA registered and work as an associate counsellor with several of the leading UK Employee Assistance Programmes including PAM Wellbeing, Health Assured, Health Hero & CIC.  I also work with young people in schools on behalf of Noah's Ark Counselling Centre, Halifax.

I was the lead School Counsellor at Bradford Grammar School (2017-2024) .  Where I set up the counselling service from scratch & worked with staff, children and young people aged 11 -18 from a wide variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.

Previously  a Counsellor at Calderdale Women Centre where the  emphasis was on recovery from Domestic Abuse & Trauma.

1992 - 2017  I worked for the Probation Service.  I was a Probation Service Officer/Victim Service's Officer/Women's Safety Worker  liaising with & supporting victims & survivors of violent & sexual offences.  Giving them a voice in the criminal justice process & the ability to request licence conditions & contribute towards parole hearings.

Based in a tranquil & rural setting (with plans to offer outdoor walk & talk therapy in the future).

References & client feedback are available on request.

Practice description

My practice is based on my belief in the self-actualisation process and in our ability to reach our full potential in life, despite self limiting beliefs & the impact of past trauma.

I am open to working with any presenting problem, however big or small.

My passion is in supporting & empowering  adults and young people to triumph over adversity & become the best that they can be!

I have a particular interest in helping women feeling stuck in an unhealthy relationship or empowering them to move on after divorce or separation.  Including recovery from trauma, coercive control or abuse of any kind (including emotional, verbal, psychological, physical, sexual, financial or narcissistic abuse).

I can also support anyone dealing with work related stress,  or coping with work place bullying.

I have past experience of living with & recovering from anxiety & depression.

Using CBT myself, I have learnt to live with the ongoing symptoms of long covid, including chronic pain &  discomfort from the related temporomandibular disorder & eustachian tube dysfunction it has left me with.

I have also suffered from Bell's Palsy in the past and can support & empathise with anyone going through that & dealing with the impact, whether permanent or temporary.

Menopause has also been a challenge that I have struggled with personally & learnt to survive & manage.

I have raised 2 amazing young adults as a single parent & have experienced bereavement first hand with the loss of both my parents from cancer.  This has given me painful yet valuable lived experience & true empathy, which has enriched my academic knowledge of the theories around grief & loss.

Our emotions are individual & unique to us all, but I believe it really helps to work with a therapist who has extensive life experience & has been through similar issues themselves.  Someone you can trust, who can truly empathise & understand what you're going through.

My first session

Your counselling can be short or long term.  I offer sessions for as long as "you" feel you need them.

The first is an initial assessment.  This allows us to explore your presenting problems or difficulties & any relevant background information.  We would use this session to explore what you want to achieve from your therapy and to set appropriate goals.

Future sessions would be led by you, covering the issues you feel are most important.  We will regularly review your progress together every six sessions, & decide how many future sessions you may want/need and what you want to use them for.

I offer a free 15 minute online or telephone consultation before booking an initial assessment.   This will enable us to decide together whether I am the right  counsellor to work with you.

Please don't hesitate to get in touch and we can arrange to have a no obligation conversation.

I very much look forward to working with you!
