About me and my therapy practice
Hi there, I’m Dan and I’m hoping I can offer you a valuable sense of hope and release from what troubles you.
I offer Humanistic Integrative therapy, a style of therapy where the aim is to look at the big picture of you and your life, a birds-eye view that allows us to see how the different aspects of you and your world fit together and interact, what works and what could be different, with a focus on helping you understand themselves more and eventually get you to the point where you don’t need me because you’ve learned what you need to fend for yourself against your struggles. My aim is to look at you as a whole person, who is entirely unique, rather than a diagnosis, issue, or experience. I draw on several therapeutic approaches from my training and experience over the past 15 years to create a bespoke service for you.
Some people use therapy for a tune up, some feel the work is deeper and more long term. Some know exactly what they need, others feel completely lost at where to start. I aim to offer a safe, professional relationship where you are respected of who and where you are in life and what you’ve experienced, and a flexible approach to your needs. As we progress it is my hope that you will feel more encouraged and empowered to tell me what you need your therapy/therapist to be, I view what I offer as not something to be done to you, but a joint piece of work that together we fine tune to get you where you need to be.
Practice description
What my therapy looks like in practice, is people come to me often feeling stuck, overwhelmed, lost or out of touch with who they feel they are, their values, goals and sense of self. My role is to offer you somewhere outside of the rest of your life, independent from other roles or relationships, to explore together with someone who you feel comfortable sharing your personal thoughts and feelings with, in confidence, so that you don't have to filter yourself or meet others' expectations or worry where information will go. I will take you as you are, so we can figure out how to get you to where you want to be.
My philosophy is to help you help yourself, the 'feed a person a fish and you feed them for a day, teach them to fish and feed them for a lifetime' method. I frequently use metaphor and analogy in my work, taking the complexities of life and translating them into simpler, manageable ideas. For example, I've often seen my work as helping a client have a mental spring clean. Many of us have that draw/cupboard we have packed things away into for years, some things useful, some not, some forgotten etc. Our minds can often be like that cupboard, and my role is to offer you a space where you can pull it all out and see what has value, what may need to go, what can be stored differently and what else we may need to work on putting in. I do this by being a student and the topic I'm studying is you. By teaching me what it's like to be you, people learn about themselves in the process, and the answers you're looking for are often revealed as we go.
Feedback I've had from people who are happy with my work is that I have a 'down to earth' attitude to therapy, a casual but professional way of being where people feel safe to bring all that they are, even the parts you fear or don't like. From feedback I have learned what I value in my work is the opportunity to offer people a place to be human with one and other, warts and all, and for that to be safe and accepted.
My first session
Finding a therapist can be challenging, especially with everything you may be struggling with. It’s a bit like online dating, a sea of profiles often putting across similar fronts, and you have no idea how what you have read will translate into the therapy room and relationship. For this reason, I feel it is valuable to offer a free 20-minute consultation to give us both an opportunity to meet and see if we are a good fit for working together. This is often a casual conversation to learn a little about each other, about what brings you to therapy and what I offer, questions or concerns you may have with no obligation for you to book an appointment. I usually encourage people to take a couple of days and listen to their gut around how they feel about returning to me and the work and if you feel confident, you’re welcome to get in touch and we’ll pop something in the diary.
Therapy is different to most professions in that you are also investing emotionally, how we feel working with each other matters. If you feel comfortable with me and that I'm the right person to support you, we can book in for a full session, which often serves as an opportunity for us both to lay out where we're coming from and where we would like to go with the therapy, and I would always aim to check in with you as we move through therapy to clarify we're working towards what you want out of the process.

I live and work in York though aim to offer supervision online via video calling or telephone.
I am currently available on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Fridays usually between 10am and 7pm, with occasional spaces on Thursdays.
Counselling and Supervision in private practice is now my only role and career focus, so will be receiving all of my attention and commitment. When I take time off this is generally around Christmas, Easter and/or the summer, and I will always aim to give you notice so your supervision is consistent.
About me and my therapy practice
Hi there, I'm Dan and I work as a Humanistic Integrative therapist, qualified in 2012 at York St John University with a Masters degree in Humanistic Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy.
My supervision is underpinned by the BACP ethical framework, guided by the 7-eye model and my Humanistic philosophies, primarily the relationship between counsellor and client, and supervisor and supervisee, in a way that offers you a space where all aspects can be explored safely with the goal being fostering your professional development.
Across my time and growth in the field I have spent several years working by phone for York Samaritans, my placements/charity roles were working with young people aged 10-25, I spent 7 years working for the IAPT program in Hull alongside the NHS which covered such a vast spectrum of client needs. I would argue that my roles have never been 'specialised' which I feel has fit well with the Humanistic philosophy of relating to the individual. I now work privately as my main role.
Practice description
I have recently undergone supervision training with Counselling Tutor (2025) which was heavily focused on working online and guided by the 7-eye model of supervision, which compliments my Humanistic background with a focus on a very fluid, birds-eye view of therapy and supervision to explore multiple angles of how we understand and relate to each other, our patterns of being and how they influence our presence in life.
Under the Humanistic umbrella, I find I enjoy working with the existential side of things, understanding the subjective elements of a scenario rather than going to the text book, and would do the same for supervisees, embodying a 'teach a person to fish' approach so that you can grow and develop, while feeling reassured and supported by myself to explore what works well and what could be done differently.
I'm a big believer that both therapy and supervision should be places where we can explore the fearful, taboo or shameful elements of who we are and how we practice, as I believe if we avoid contact with these they will impact our work outside of our awareness, and it is my responsibility to be the kind of person you feel comfortable exploring these aspects with, trusting that I will support rather than judge or criticise.
My first session
I would encourage anyone who thinks I may be a good fit as a supervisor to reach out and arrange an initial consultation, a 30 minute conversation to see if we're a good fit, and if you feel I can meet your needs as a supervisor, and to discuss ways of working, current roles etc that may impact how we proceed. Following this conversation I can send you a copy of my Supervision Contract and if there's any questions or concerns you would be welcome to reach out and I'll do what I can to accommodate.
Sessions are generally speaking a space for you to bring your client work and the aspects influencing this, but I'm a big believer in the holistic aspects of therapy and supervision, so there would be room for your own life experiences and needs in supervision if we agree that it is impacting your relationship with your work.
My fee for a session is £60 per hour, concessions are available to be negotiated.
