Practice description
At N C Counselling I offer a trauma-informed, integrative counselling service for adults and young people. My approach is steady, compassionate and grounded in creating a safe, predictable space where clients can explore their experiences at a pace that feels right for them. I draw from person-cantered, CBT-informed, relational and motivational approaches, tailoring the work to each individual rather than using a single model. I have specialist experience in addiction, relapse prevention, bereavement and loss, supporting young people and families through periods of change, stress or uncertainty. My work is collaborative and non-judgemental with a focus of helping clients build understanding, resilience and meaningful sustainable change. Alongside counselling, I also provide clinical supervision for counsellors and practitioners. My supervision style is reflective, supportive and ethically grounded, offering a steady space for professional growth, wellbeing and safe practice. I offer in-person sessions in Armagh as well as online and telephone counselling. Appointments are available Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm with evening sessions and occasional Saturdays depending on circumstances.
My first session
Your first session is a gentle and structured space where we get to know each other and explore what has brought you to counselling. We move at your pace, with no pressure to share anything before you feel ready. I ask a few grounding questions to understand your needs, your goals and what feels most important for you right now. We also look at what you would like from therapy and previous experiences you have had and what helps you feel safe and supported. I explain how I work trauma-informed, integrative, and collaborative and agree together on the pace and focus of our sessions. This is also your opportunity to ask questions and get a sense of the therapeutic relationship, and decide whether I am the right fit for you. By the end of the session we will have a shared understanding of your priorities and the next steps. There is no obligation to continue; the first session is about clarity, comfort, and choice.
