About me and my therapy practice

We all struggle from time to time perhaps though bereavement, relationship breakdown and life transitions. We can also experience longer standing, deep-rooted difficulties arising from various factors, including influences we might not be fully aware of.

Talking through what’s troubling you in a safe, consistent space, with a qualified and experienced therapist, can help lessen distress and deepen self-understanding.

I am a psychoanalytic psychotherapist with over 20 years’ experience in NHS mental health services. Alongside my background in counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy, and dynamic interpersonal therapy, I have extensive experience in long term, depth psychotherapy with people who wish to explore themselves more deeply.

I am a senior accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy MBACP (Snr Accred), and a registrant of the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC). I work in accordance with BACP’s Ethical Framework, and BPC’s Standards of Conduct, Practice and Ethics. I abide by BACP and BPC’s complaints procedure.

Practice description

I offer psychodynamic and psychoanalytic psychotherapy from a dedicated therapeutic practice in the north west of central Glasgow, to adults who are self-funding.

What is Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy?

Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy is a talking therapy that explores how past experiences continue to affect the way we think and feel today. It focuses on emotions and relationships, helping you notice the themes and patterns that keep appearing in your life. Instead of focusing only on easing symptoms, it encourages deeper self exploration. In sessions, your therapist will invite you to say whatever comes to mind so that you can develop a deeper understanding of yourself, your conflicts, fears and anxieties.

What relevant qualifications do I have?

 Scottish Training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, in accordance with the regulations and standards of the British Psychoanalytic Council;

 Kitemarked Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT) Practitioner;

 PGDip in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT);

 Diploma in Counselling (Dip. Couns.)

My first session

I offer an initial consultation, which can take place over a few appointments, to hear what’s been difficult for you and to explore whether psychotherapy might be helpful. These early meetings give you a sense of how therapy works and help you decide whether I’m someone you feel you can work with.
