Practice description
You'll find my approach warm, welcoming, enquiring and inclusive.
Sessions last 50 minutes and depending on your needs and what you want to explore, we might use that time to simply talk and look for meaning and understanding of your difficulties. Or we might do something more structured.
Sometimes, I might provide ideas or activities you could to try between sessions. I avoid describing this as homework but more like an experiment - it's always your choice whether to try things or not and people often make interesting or useful discoveries about themselves by noticing what happened when they tried new approaches, but equally why they decided not to, or felt blocked.
I once saw a poster that said, "What people need is a good listening to" and I often think that this is one of the most valuable aspects of coming to therapy! So at all times, I encourage my clients to talk as freely as they feel comfortable or safe to do. My aim is to help clients feel that sessions are a place in their lives where they are met without judgement or criticism but with compassion, interest and encouragement.
My first session
The first one or two sessions are usually mostly focussed on information gathering. I will ask various questions about your life, both past and present, along with any specific or significant details that could help me get to know you and what you are hoping to get from sessions.
