About me and my therapy practice

Counselling is a form of a talking therapy that allows people to discuss their problems, worries and any difficult feelings they are experiencing in a safe, non-judgemental environment. Counselling (also known as therapy) can mean different things to different people, but generally, it is something people seek when they want to change a certain aspect of their life, need support, or because they want to explore and understand their thoughts and feelings more closely.

All of us are unique and so counselling, and the support offered, will vary depending on your situation. Counselling and the techniques involved will be tailored to you.

Because of this, there are also a number of ways you can access counselling. Depending on lifestyles and abilities, some people will prefer face-to-face sessions and can be seen in my practices in West Wickham or Sevenoaks in Kent and also Bletchingly in Surrey. Others may be short on time, so telephone counselling may be preferred, another popular form of counselling I offer is online counselling.

I work with Adults, Couples & Young People.

Practice description

I work integratively as a therapist, combining elements of different types of therapies depending on the client's needs and to ensure we are working with the most effective approach.  I adapt to the person as they  present to me in the room and adjust the therapeutic approach depending on the needs of the client to ensure the time offered continues to be safe and effective. Therapy provides a empathetic and congruent space, facilitating an environment in which one feels safe to share their thoughts and feelings.

We can explore past and present experiences looking at how these experiences influence present-day behaviours and ways of thinking. We can also look at future aspirations and work on the steps you need to take to get there.

The length of the therapy depends on the individual, the reason they seek therapy and how ready they feel to commit to the time.  This will be reviewed and discussed as the therapy progresses to assess how you respond to therapy, what you feel you need from the sessions (which may change overtime), and what is discovered during the process. I am respectful of the readiness of the client to move forward.

The therapy works at the pace of the client not the therapist which enables you to be of optimum mind set and open to new understandings and perspectives.

My first session

In the first session we discuss your reasons for seeking therapy; why it is sought at this time and your expectations and understandings of what therapy is about. We work towards unpicking the difficulties which are most prominent and in need of addressing. The first session is also about getting to experience the room, talking to a therapist and gauging how you feel being in therapy. First and foremost it is important that you feel safe and able to be open with your therapist, this can sometimes take time.
