About me and my therapy practice

An experienced, accredited Person-Centred Counsellor/Therapist, working from a relational approach with individual adults, providing a warm, genuine, respectful, gentle, non-judgemental professional space where you can explore what is troubling you.

I have extensive experience supporting adults from all walks of life, with anxiety, depression, stress, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, life transitions & have particular expertise in loss and bereavement. I believe every individual has the capacity for growth & change. I work alongside you at your own pace to help you gain greater understanding, resilience and confidence.

I am very aware how we can all struggle on day after day without ever seeking any proper support. Counselling offers the support & space during these difficult & challenging periods. These periods of our lives could include times when we may be feeling a bit down, feel a bit stuck, recently bereaved, given a diagnosis or developed anxiety, depression or an illness. Counselling can also be beneficial if you are experiencing concerns about an upcoming life event, the future or something is troubling from the past.

We all experience, process feelings, emotions, thoughts, life events in individual ways. How I work will therefore be unique & tailored to you whether it’s short or long term. We work in collaboration & address your needs. I work in the ‘here & now’, with past events & future worries. By choosing a person-centred therapeutic relationship I will ensure we build a therapeutic space individual to you where you will be supported & accepted for any changes you want to make. Counselling can help pinpoint & understand meaning behind your thoughts, feelings, emotions, behaviours & relationships. It can also address personal development, provide clarity, gain personal insights, develop strategies, identify goals & increase self-acceptance, self-awareness, self-esteem & self-expression.

Practice description

As of 2023 I now currently work from my private location in Chesham and online.

I offer a 10-minute free initial telephone call to answer any questions you may have, discuss the practicalities of arranging sessions and talk through any anxieties you may be experiencing in starting counselling.

Session length - 50-60 minutes however, this can be adapted to suit your needs.

Please see my website for further details of my practice and get in touch if you have any questions. www.carahitchcockcounselling.co.uk

Accredited Member of The Foundation for Infant Loss Training.

Trained by PAC-UK - Working with Adopted Adults.

Associate Counsellor with Professional Help Ltd, Sparta Health, Suicide&Co. and Wellbeing Solutions

My private location is easily accessible from the A41, and all major local routes including Amersham, Tring, Berkhamstead, Beaconsfield, The Chalfonts, Hemel Hempstead, High Wycombe, Watford and other areas.

My first session

As a Therapeutic Counsellor I am fully aware that talking about yourself, your problems, your thoughts and your feelings can be a daunting, uncomfortable and sometimes a fearful situation to be in. I will try to help, support and ease you through this process as much as possible, giving you as much clear information as I can as I go along. I will go through with you prior to our first meeting what to expect and I will try my best to answer any questions you may have regarding our first meeting and the process as a whole.

During our first session we will explore at your pace the reason/s you have decided to come to counselling and agree together a way forward which suits your needs.

As we work together and as you experience the 'autonomy' within the counselling room, you may find it becomes less daunting and as a result you may feel that you want to address other issues or problems as and when they come up for you. My part in the process is not to evaluate, judge or give you advice in any way because each client and each situation is different and unique.

I believe every individual has the capacity for growth and change, and I work alongside you at your own pace to help you gain greater understanding, resilience, and confidence.
