About me and my therapy practice

Are you feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or struggling to cope with stress or low mood?

I offer online counselling for adults across the UK, providing a safe, supportive space where you can bring whatever is affecting you, without fear of judgement - and where you can find acceptance, understanding and a way forward.

I’m Catriona, a BACP-registered counsellor with nearly 20 years’ experience working in NHS, education, and community settings.

I have particular experience supporting:

• Anxiety

• Stress and overwhelm

• Depression and low mood

• Low self-esteem and confidence

• Life transitions and feeling stuck

• Parents and carers of children with special educational needs (SEND)

• Young adults navigating change and uncertainty

Much of my work has been with people who have felt overlooked and misunderstood - and this continues to shape how I practise. I offer a way of working that is grounded in genuine human connection.

How counselling can help

After working with me, previous clients have shared they feel:

• Feel calmer and more grounded

• Feel more confident

• Are more self-aware and self-accepting

• Have better strategies for coping with stress and overwhelm

• Experience improved relationships

• Have greater self-direction and motivation

If you'd like to find out more, you're welcome to get in touch to arrange a free 15 minute phone call.

Practice description

My approach

My approach is person-centred, meaning I focus on building a safe, trusting relationship where you feel accepted and understood.

I won’t tell you what to do or try to “fix” you. Instead, I’ll work alongside you—listening carefully and offering reflections, insight, and gentle challenge to support your understanding and growth.

My work is also informed by polyvagal theory, which helps explain how the nervous system responds to stress. This can be helpful in understanding anxiety, overwhelm, or feeling shut down, and in finding ways to feel calmer and more regulated.

Inclusive and affirming practice

I offer a warm, non-judgemental, and inclusive space. I welcome clients of all ethnicities, genders, sexualities, faiths, abilities, and neurotypes.

I am committed to working in a respectful, affirming, and anti-oppressive way, recognising the impact of inequality and discrimination on mental health.

Supporting your nervous system

My work is informed by polyvagal theory, which looks at how our nervous system responds to stress and safety. In simple terms, this helps us understand why you might feel anxious, shut down, or on edge — and how to bring your body and mind back into balance.

Where helpful, I support clients to recognise these responses and develop practical ways to feel calmer and more emotionally regulated in daily life.

My first session

If you're considering counselling, you’re welcome to book a free 15-minute phone call. This is a relaxed, no-obligation conversation where you can ask questions and get a sense of whether working together feels right.

In our first full session, we’ll explore what’s brought you to counselling and what you’re hoping for.

What I can help with

ADD / ADHD, Adoption, AIDS/HIV, Anxiety, Autism spectrum, Bereavement, Cancer, Child related issues, Cultural issues, Depression, Disability, Health related issues, Identity issues, Infertility, LGBTQ+ counselling, Loss, Menopause, Neurodiversity, Redundancy, Relationships, Self esteem, Sexual identity, Sexuality, Spirituality, Stress, Women's issues, Work related issues
